Well, I have been personally persecuted by xtians in my upbringing...

Other than that, I feel more persecuted by the theocratic government I live in. Really, religion is a personal choice. So how can I cry persecution from a religion?

I don't feel persecuted. I do feel that Atheists / Secularists / Humanists need to carve out a space liberated from iron age philosophies. I believe in using social science and modern, rational thought to provide the greatest liberty and quality of life for every human being. Fundamentalism must be separated from government to achieve this.

One can still live by "God's Law" even if it isn't the law of the land. See all the Jews/Muslims who don't eat pork. Don't like pre-marital sex? Don't engage in that activity. But don't tell me that my sister/girlfriend/daughter can't have access to birth control, pregnancy termination, family planning, HPV vaccine because you don't like pre-marital sex. Etc, Etc...

*Edit* On further thought, I do feel irritated that recent polls have shown that it would be near impossible for an atheist to get elected to major public office. This encourages deception from candidates. I have also heard horror stories of ostricization, especially of atheist children, in areas where evangelical Christianity is the norm. Although my atheism has been of little consequence to me personally, I do feel the need to speak up an raise consciousness about other atheists who may suffer a level of persecution.

Persecuted? No one has tried to take my land. No one has refused me the opportunity to speak my mind. There was one President that claimed Atheists are not citizens, I suppose that could be called persecution. As long as they are not forcing me to abide by their religion, I totally feel free to practice my lack thereof.

I don't feel persecuted by religion... it's a thing. There are people who are highly capable of persecuting in the name of religion though.

I think an extremist of any religious stripe would be in the position to persecute someone.

I don't feel persecuted by them so much as my own beliefs and views disgarded in favour of theirs. They often come across as not giving a rat's behind for anyone else's opinions.

That would be christianity of course.
