both!

Which is more painful, getting hit in the head with a hammer or falling down a flight of concrete steps.

Both are rude, neither more so then the other. People are less offended by belching, but that doesn'y make it less rude. The offensive really has to do with the side of the pipe the gas escapes from. A burp comes out of the side we don't mind looking at. (mostly)

However, both of these are understood to be things we only have a limited amount of control over. Sometimes it "just slips out!" Since they both have that quality - they aren't the worst offenses out there. Using a slur is much worse then both put together.

Unless of course your burping the Alphabet at the symphony or there is a lighter involved in the gas. Also, there are some social situations - most of which involve beer in large quantities and more men then women - where neither is not so much impolite as an issuance of challenge. :)

Unless it is a slip up where you really cannot help yourself then just say excuse me and that is okay, but if you choose to do these things in public just to get a laugh or what ever, then you would be the rudest person around, this is very rude and unless you can't help yourself I think it is disgusting.
It just shows how ignorant a person is, I was raised to have respect for people, but there are some people that acts as if they were never raised. This is a lack of mannerism and respect for other people not to mention the lack of respect a person would have for themselves that would belch of expel gas in the presents of other people. So the answer is YES,
it is very rude!!!

I know for a fact that farting is far more than rude. belching in public, and if you remember to cover your mouth while doing it, is brushed off by saying excuse me. When you fart it will tend to lead eyes upon you with gross discussion it and may also leave a horrific smell.

well i think that both can be rude to the same level and it depends on the control of either which determines its rudeness level... for instance if you feel the need to belch at a dinner table you can cover your mouth turn away and control it or you can hit the person opposite you with part of your semi-digested main course. similarly with farting... u can ease it out slow n hope it doesnt smell too bad or you can get up turn round drop your pants and bendover.. light it as it thunders out adding extra glaze to your meringue... either way if you in turkey its a compliment to the food!

Honestly Both! There was a point where is was all a big joke but not anymore, we are going back to where everyone should respect everyone. farting and belching in public is one of them.

Acting like either one is totally taboo and like normal people don't do it. It shouldn't be the main focus of any routine conversation, but people who act like the world has ended if somebody belches or farts nearby are the rude ones.

Farting, it is more controlable. If you are in public and start to belch you can cover your mouth and keep it quiet.
