It will bear mark of a system or religious structure. People will accept it in their right hand or forehead Revelation 13:16. Many perhaps most people of the world are going to willfully accept this "mark". The mark may not literally mean something visible, but is more about conviction. Those who've accepted the lies of Satan (atheism, eastern religion, new age, the occult, false Christianity, Islam, deism, agnosticism, etc.) will wear the mark. It will be in their foreheads (minds and hearts) and hands (in their actions). We may not see it. God will see it clearly. The Antichrist system has been well under way. People are fed into it today, yesterday, and tomorrow. They like things that are pleasing to the eyes and ears (tangible). They will HATE Christianity because they hate the truth. Badly. Watch the news.

Even though there are tall tale signs now that somethin funny is goin on with the world. People will come together and try once again to solve man's own problems (peace initiatives, global warming solutions, feeding the poor...). People with the mark will have come accustomed to bad news. Though noble an idea. they will be lead to their own destruction. As well as with the "beast" who deceived them.

Jesus actually says that in the last of days it will be like Noah's day. Noah was building the ship. People were going about their business and even mocked him. Noah went into the ship. People would've cared less. The rain came. They were inconvenienced. More rain came people started to worry. More rain came people panicked. More rain came. People drowned. When the Seven Last Plagues fall on the earth and those who have the mark. People will curse God rather than repent. They too will consequently be destroyed.

I think that the number 666 will be the Mark, instituted as a prefix to all of our important financial numbers such as credit cards, Social Security and etc. It will be imprinted into a computer chip type technology that will be embedded in the right hand or the forehead so that when we scan it at an ATM/grocery store and etc. our info will be automoatically accessible to the world net that the Antichrist will control.

The "mark of the beast" is not a literal mark. The Lord tells us that Christ spoke in parables (Mark 4:33, 34). Just a as a cattle rancher puts a brand on his cattle to identify them as his, so the "mark of the beast" is a mark of ownership, that is the property of the devil.
Again, it is NOT a literal, visible mark. Notice, the Bible tells us that the mark wll be in the forehead or hand. This is parabolic language that indicates that those who are owned by satan will have the same mindset as satan and will do the work of satan.

Nero Caesar. John, the author, is clearly talking about the First Century church during the persecutions. Gematria is "is numerology of the Hebrew language and Hebrew alphabet" (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gematria ) Basically, it is taking the Hebrew Alphabet and giving numerical value to each of the characters. This was fairly common practice in writings such as this.

Most Scripture Scholars agree that 666 refers to Nero. If you take the Greek transliteration of Nero's nameand put it into Hebrew, then add the numerical values, you get:

Add them up and see what you get.

Some varients in Latin have 616. This is because the name Nero was Neron in Greek and Nero in Latin. Dropping that final "N" decreases the value by 50.

David Aune points out another interesting solution I am not familiar with other than his summary:

"(E. Stauffer) argues that the Greek name of Domitian...complete with his official title....(is) occasionally found abbreviated on coins as (A lot of letters I can't type on here)"

Ends up he took those characters and figured out the sum of their gematria was 666. This certainly goes along with the line of nobody being able to buy or sell without the mark of the beast.

Either way, the Mark of the Beast certainly identified somehow with that 1st Century Roman government. Your question seemed to be more along the lines of how it applies to us today. Or at least that's how I read into it.

The verse reads:
"This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."

I think we need to stay wise and focus on what God wants us to do. I think we need to think of things in terms of how God would view our actions. Would God see our actions as helping Him or harming Him? The "mark" is not something that seems obvious to most, as it calls for wisdom to truly understand it and see it. I think the more time we spend in a prayerful mood and thinking about our decisions with God, the better off our life will be.

Alot of people are going to say it's a computer chip in your forehead or right hand, but that's hogwash. The forehead represents the mind, and the right hand represents a man's works. What it's saying is that people will agree with the beast with both their minds and works in bringing about the reality of the beast (world government). In fact, it's all but here now.

I was taught that people would have to have the mark of the beast in order to travel or buy goods. I'd have to say you can't travel many places without credit cards. I could see people putting them into their hands and foreheads :O)~

its a mark that unsaved people are going to recieve in order to recieve food and other needs during the tribulation. its gonna be the law from the anti christ. anyone without that mark will not be able to buy ANYTHING and will probably be killed for not accepting the mark. people who get saved during the trib. will not take this mark. anyone who takes it is NOT saved and will go to hell when they die and anyone who does not take it will suffer ALOT but will go to heaven when they die so if i wasnt a christian and was stuck on earth during the trib, AND THEN got saved, i wouldnt take the mark cuz then i dont have to be tortured for eternity. so if your not saved i suggest you get saved SOON b4 its too late
