To convert to islam, one must say the shahada. This is a testament of faith. It acknowledges that God is the only one deserving of worship (not his Prophets, or anything else), and it acknowledges that Muhammad is the last of his Prophets, who was sent with the final revelation, the Qur'an.
the shahada is: ashadu anla illaha illAllah, wa ashadu ana muhammadan abduhu wa rusulu. (I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped except Allah, and that Muhammad is his slave and Messenger)

Decision of converting needs a deep study about Islam and its teachings. Actually, you should read more and more about different faiths so as to get the truth and the right path to God as well as to achieve the peace within you.
As a muslim, I can say it is a great decision to convert to Islam but I would be more proud of you if you convert with full and perfect satisfaction about your faith of Islam.
Islam (Submission in English) is the religion whereby we recognize God's absolute authority, and reach an unshakable conviction that God ALONE possesses all power; no other entity possesses any power that is independent of Him.
You may be already a Muslim (submitter). A Submitter can be defined as a person who submits to the will of God.
How can we know if we might qualify to be called a Submitter? The mini-mum criteria to be a Submitter are given in the following verses.
Surely, those who believe,
those who are Jewish, the Christians,
and the converts; anyone who
(1) believes in GOD, and
(2) believes in the Last Day, and
(3) leads a righteous life,
will receive their recompense from their Lord.
They have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve. (2:62, 5:69)
And finally, here is a good website for translated QURAN into English:
http://www.submission.org/quran/reader/english/
WISH THE BEST TO YOU
Peace!

Salamu Alaiykum wa rahmutallah wa barakatu.
Congratulations! Allah (SWT) has guided you to seerat al-mustakeem (the straight path).
Everyone is born Muslim, but since you were technically practicing another religion it will be more complete and fulfilling for you to go through the conversion.
It is better to have witnesses, but not necessary. After all, you are converting for Allah (SWT), not people, right? I suggest you visit your local masjid (mosque), and they will help you through your first days as a Muslim.
To convert, you must declare in Arabic: "Ashadu ana la illaha illahallah, wa ashadu ana muhammadur rasool Allah." It means: "I testify that there is no God but God, and I testify that Muhammed is the messenger of God."
Then you must make Ghusl. It is one of the ways Muslims purify their bodies. I'm sure in your studies of Islam you have come across the concept of wudu, which are the abulitions Muslims are required to make before each prayer. Ghusl is a more thorough form of this, required after intercourse, after the menstrual cycle of a woman, and after conversion.
You get in the shower and first wash your privates. The with your left hand, wash the entire right side of your body. Same with the other side. Use no soap, only water.
Then you are a Muslim. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any more questions about your faith.

Maybe the reason Christianity made no sense was because you were listening to what other people told you about it. Many people have twisted perceptions of Christianity.. If you go to God yourself through his word, the Bible, and truly seek him, I'm positive you'll find what you have always been looking for. What didn't make sense to you? As a Bible believing Christian, I'm open to answer any questions you have. The only way to God is through Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and the only religion that truly makes sense and does not contradict itself.

As Salaam Alaikum to you!
Masha'Allah that you are interested in Al-Islaam!! :=)
Like everyone....most everyone, has said on here, you will need to take shahada, the testament of faith.
Some people will tell you to study, study,, study and make an informed choice. But Allah(swt) calls whom he wills to Islaam, at whatever time he feels best. If you feel that you want to be muslim and take shahada, DO IT! You don't know what will happen to you between now and tomorrow.
I only studied for a month before I KNEW Islaam was the truth, and took shahada. Alhamdulillah, speak with local muslims at a masjid close to you......I started by calling and simply telling the person on the other end I wanted more info.
To keep beliefs strong....honestly what I have found is to hang out with other muslims. But then again my american friends ditched after I converted, but who cares. 5 daily prayers, fast on mondays and thursdays from sunrise to sundown and read Qu'ran and hadeeth one hour a day have helped my iman(faith) so much.
May Allah(swt) make it easy for you as he made it for me.

Here are a couple of sites to get you started.
Washington State University Muslim Students Association...28 questions about Islam.

Islam cracks the code. A good comparison between Christianity and Islam.

There is no secret to "convert"...You just declare before God that "There is only ONE GOD and you will worship no other god and that Mohammad is His prophet".
It really is the most simple religion there are 5 "pillars" of faith which when followed will give you the strong faith you desire.
You can also find on-line editions of the Qu'ran. The Qu'ran is easy to read, very straight forward (no cryptic deciphering required) and will help anyone understand God and His purpose for us. I also went to Walmart and bought a Qu'ran...$8.95.

First of all I want to say that's great that you want to learn more about the beautiful religion of Islam. I hope that God guides you in learning and becoming faithful.
Converting is quite easy. All you have to do is go to a local mosque. There, you will be told to recite the Shahada, which is "There is no God besides Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger and servant of Allah."
The five things you must do in Islam is:
1.) Recite the declaration of faith (Shahada) Also you have to believe in the messengers, angels, books, and Judgement Day.
2.) Pray five times a day
3.) Give charity
4.) Fast during the month of Ramadan
5.) If possible, make a trip to Mekkah.
To keep beliefs strong, all you have to is keep praying and ask God for guidance and strength. I pray that God guides you and makes it all easier for you. God knows best.

May you find the answers you are searching for in Islam. I was a Christian until 4 years ago and I can tell you honestly that I love Islam and the Islamic way of life. Allah/God has truely blessed me and enriched my life.
What do Muslims Believe?
Muslims believe in One, Unique, Incomparable God' in the Angels created by Him, in the prophets through whom His revelations were brought to mankind; in God's complete authority over human destiny and in life after death. Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist and Jesus, peace be upon them. But God's final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him through Gabriel.
How does someone become a Muslim?
Simply by saying "there is no god apart from God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God." By this declaration the believer announces his or her faith in all God's messengers, and the scriptures they brought. What does `Islam" mean? The Arabic word `Islam' simply means `submission,' and drives from a word meaning `peace.' In a religious context it means complete submission to the will of God. `Mohammedianism' is thus a misnomer because it suggests that Muslims worship Muhammad peace be upon him rather than God. `Allah' is the Arabic name for God, which is used by Arab Muslims and Christians alike. Why does Islaam often seem strange? Islaam my seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world. Perhaps this is because religion does not dominate everyday life in the West today, whereas Muslims have religion always uppermost in their minds, and make no division between secular and sacred. They believe that the Divine Law, the Shari'a, should be taken very seriously, which is why issues related to religion are still so important.
here are some websites I hope will help you.

To convert to islam, simply find an Imam and tell him about your desire. Saying Ashadu anna la ilah illa alah wa ashadu anna muhammadan rasul alah is the first step to becoming a muslim. This statement means that I believe that there is only one God and that mohamad is the messenger of God. You should also believe that God never had a son which may be hard for you, as you are christian.
There are five main things you have to do to stay muslim.
The first one is saying the statment above (Ashadu......)
The second is to pray to god.
The third is to fast in Ramadan.
The fourth is to give charity to poor people.
The fifth is to go to Haj ( you only have to do this commandent if you have the enough money and power but if you can not that is fine).
Also, there are a few things that you have to Avoid as a muslim which are:
a) Having sex with a person other than you spouse.
b) Gambling.
c) Eating blood.
d) Stealing.
e) lying to people and cheating.
f ) Saying bad words and swores.
g) swearing falsely.
h) Drinking alcohol.
i) Killing living creatures ( and unfortunately muslims nowadays tend to oppose this commandment, but be sure it's not the religion , it's its carriers)
That's all you have to do to become muslim and don't believe anybody who tells you that islam is a strict religion.
Good luck
