It's really annoying.

I am a music director, and I find it horrible to keep your audience waiting. I believe in starting stuff on time. Why wait? If you are confident in your ensemble, and your presentation- you should be ready and itching to get on that stage and show your stuff. Also, those people in the seats are there to hear you, and it is unprofessional and downright rude to be late. Sorry this has happened to you, and I invite you to one of our performances. We won't be late, and it will be good. LOL
Thanks for supporting the arts and music. We appreciate our audiences.

Every time I've done any sort of performance we will always wait until the main flow of people into the house has calmed down. Why start if there are still a lot of people that need to get to their seats? The performers have been there for a while so they can to make-up and costuming, or warm up, depending on the type of performance. So usually it's not the performer's fault, but the guests' fault.

I doubt it's intentional. Think about all of the stuff that is going on backstage - working up the nerve, messing with hair and makeup and clothes, drugs - whatever.

While we don't see it, many performers suffer from stage fright and have to work up a lot of nerve to get out on stage

Give them a break. A lot of the time they're in a new town every night, and they probably haven't a clue where they are going.

I haven't been to a lot of concerts, but I don't recall ever seeing musicians wearing watches. I especially doubt a rock drummer would wear one, as one that could stand the abuse would be too expensive to risk.

It's possible that, at times, performers may want to wait until people finish getting seated and settled in, so as to minimize distractions during the beginning of the performance.

But I agree that it's annoying for those of us already there and in our seats.

The reason is that the performers want to play to a packed house, other times they are partying with sponsors or making apperances right before the show.

When I perform I usually lose track of time. I wait till it seems like everyone is ready for me and I am put together completely ad then I go out. It has nothing to do with wanting to be late. It has more to do with the fact that my mind is preparing itself in it's own time and then when I am ready I go out. Please be patient with us:)
