I think it could be a combination of the two. However I think a third option is love and concern. I know I love my parents and am grateful for their contributions to my life and to the man I have become. I go over and help my dad with his yard all the time. I call them often and love them dearly. I consider my Dad one of my best friends because we have a great relationship. I still do respect him as my father too. I think a large part if it is that it's hard to want your parents to be cared for by someone who may not care for them as much as you do. My faith does promote love of family and importance of family too, so I can't say that doesn't play in yet more than anything else I love them and would do anythiing I can to care for them, as a tribute to the impact they have had for good in my life.

Well I am happy to say my parents, 78 and 75 years old are healthy and active. My Dad says he doesn't want to go to a nursing home and my Mother said she would love a nice assisted care home. That is what I base my judgment on at this moment. If I ever have to put them in one, I will be attentive.

I love my mother too much to let her end up in a nursing home. She works in one, and I know I won't fool myself into thinking, "she's going to be alright", because I know a little bit of how many elderly people are abandoned.
My main reason (motivation) is love.

The decline in morals and increasing hatred of anything to do with chritianity, and the bible, etc.Even in the 70's and 80's it was still good to be a moral conservative christian.the bible, prayer, and teaching to be a citizen are all going down the slippery slope. The XY generations feel their parents and grandparents are only their when they want something. They don't have time to bother with them (to just visit or help) when their parents and grandparents need them.Yes,hispanic are very family conscieous.

Society has the biggest pull in our relationship with our parents. Hence the reason of such disrespect towards them.

Its mostly cultural. Most cultures revere their elderly as wise. They are also very family based in that they include thier extended family.
