I was at a BBQ about a week ago and had some hamburgers and the following day I was sick w/abdomenal cramping, nausea, and diarrhea. Those symptoms passed w/in 24 hrs, but since then anytime I have solid food I get cramping w/in 30-60 min. and have to go to the bathroom. I've since found out that the meat I had may have been part of a recall in the area. A friend suggested I use magnesium citrate and follow-up w/a fruits & veggies diet for a couple days. Another friend suggests I use acidophilus w/a fruits & veggies diet.

Which treatment should I use? Can I do a sort of "combo" where I first use mag. citrate followed by the fruits & veggies diet w/acidophilus supplements? Any other suggestions would be most appreciated.

BTW, please do not suggest going to the docotor as I am currently out-of-state and don't have insurance.

Thanks!

Ah, you've got a slight case of gastroenteritis. That is the technical term for when something sets off your stomach and it doesn't go back to its old self for a while. The inner lining of your large intestine has gotten irritated, so now everything you eat aggravates it. I get that occasionally, and when I do I eat nothing but cereal, because that seems to be the only thing that doesn't bother it. Oh, and mashed potatoes too. Stay away from meat, produce (I don't care what your friend says- veggies will just make you have to go more- they're roughage, you know), and dairy, and stick to cereals and starches, and drink lots of liquids. I get it once every couple years or so, and this is what works for me.
