One would think that if this man basically speaks for god, then god will see to it that no one tries to kill him, right? Or at best, he will smite down anyone who tries?

And if not, and the pope was assassinated, that would be god's will, would it not? So no harm, no foul.

Therefore, bodyguards seem unnecessary.

(As I apparently have a new fan that's a Catholic, this one's for you, spanky... :)

Edit - Max Marie - how would a lack of bodyguards be putting god to a test? If it's god's will that the pope be assassinated, then it will come to pass. If anything, bodyguards are going to make god's will harder to accomplish, in that instance...

Your argument is not logical.

You might argue that if one is sick then you should not go to the doctor because if God wants you to live then you will and if God wants you to die then you will. This goes completely against using our common sense and using all of the gifts that God has given us. Such as modern medicine, doctors, hospitals, etc.

With 6 billion people in the world, all of them with the gift of free will, some of them who hate God, the Church, or the Pope, a few of them insane, it is just using common sense that the Pope should have protection.

Matthew 4:5-7 states:

Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: 'He will command his angels concerning you and 'with their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.'"

Jesus answered him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'"

The Pope likewise uses his God-given common sense and does not put God to the test.

With love in Christ.

Because there are a lot of deranged people in the world. Did you hear that the last Pope was shot???? If Christ had bodyguards, He wouldn't have been crucified at the age of 33. But that was His purpose in coming to Earth, so He didn't take steps to prevent it.

I'm not a Catholic, but I don't see how it's much different than anyone else. Why does the president have bodyguards? If he is assassinated, wouldn't it be God's will?

I think the answer is that we are not allowed to slip into inactivity, expecting God to do everything for us. We have to take action, protect ourselves if there is a possible threat to our well-being, and we also need to do everything in our power to help the poor and feed the hungry. We cannot just do nothing expecting that God will do everything. That would make us lazy good-for-nothing people!

The Pope needs Bodyguards for the same reason that there are fences around graveyards.

People are dying to get in

He knows that if the "faithful" ever wake up and realize what a fleecing operation the vatican has going on, that he's going to be the first target. In fact, didn't John Paul get shot by some muslim nutjob in 1981 or 82?. Anyway, if I was the CEO of such a massive snowjob over and against the people, I'd want bodyguards, too.

The Pope is not God's representative but Satan's official representative. Let me explain:

+++Jesus, the true founder of the gnostics/nazarenes+++

Jesus and the disciples were the true founders of the gnostics and nazarenes.

See:
http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/nazarenes/nazarenes_0010.htm

In essence Jesus taught through the gnostic texts:

+ The god of the Old testament, the "jealous god", the "vengeful god" that demanded sacrifices, that demanded blood and war was actually satan pretending to be god.

+ The true God, is the father of all things, a loving universal god who would never display willing hatred towards any of his creations.

+ The Sadducee High Priests, the religious leaders hide behind white robes and words of holiness, but in fact were evil satanists who practiced black magic and human sacrifice.

+ The way to salvation is through self knowledge and the respect of all knowledge, not the promotion of ritual and ignorance of the double speaking satanists.

+++Paul of Tarsus and Christianity+++

Paul of Tarsus and the Sadducee Jewish High Priests formed the parasitic religion of christianity including the false scriptures listed as the "Bible", especially the New Testament. Paul hated women, hated them with a passion and considered them worse than slaves and domestic animals.
See:
http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/founders_christianity/founders_christianity_0010.htm

So when Catholics claim to be the one universal church, it is the true church of Paul that they are- therefore worshippers of satan pretending to be god.

And yes, the official representative of Satan does need a security detail.

+++WWJD? What would Jesus Do?+++

+ Jesus has been continually mis-represented thanks to Paul of Tarsus for 2000 years.

+ Above all that people who falsely claim to be speaking in his name stop.

Jesus himself answers this question for you.

Thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the test.
