What could it have been?! It moved too quickly for me to see it clearly, it was just out of the corner of my eye, but I got the DISTINCT bone-chilling impression that its attention was wholely focused on ME.
At the risk of sounding like you-know-who... what should I do?!

Ghosts of war my fellow pilot, ghosts of war. Sure, some say it's just an old lonely pilots tale, or two many hours behind the controls. But there have been many who would agree on your description. These are the souls of pilots killed in space. The explosion of their ships rockets their souls throughout the cosmos, combining with nebulas, transfered to distant solar systems in different constellations.
This is a tell tale sign of cabin fever, you should dock at the nearest station and walk around a little bit. It gets a little cramped in these pods I know, but be thankful, we don't have to do all that reading any longer. The time of data transfer is now!

I would call one of those psychics from television. They could probably force the spirit back to where it belongs and then close the portal. Maybe you could try to find the portal before the psychic gets there. It will be in an area that feels very cold and there could be discoloration on objects near it. If you have a cat be especially careful, this could be a yattering and they like to throw cats into lit fireplaces.

Was it out of the right corner of your right eye? I've been getting that a bit lately, both at home and at work. Not while driving though. I know what you mean... you can see something moving like it's watching you out of the corner of your eye and as soon as you notice it and turn your head for a clear view of it, there's nothing there. The icy-cold feeling is just your adrenaline from being startled. But, what the heck it is...I have no idea. Ghosts maybe?

Generally, if this presence originates from outside of yourself, it will make its intentions known to you. Some of us feel these presences more acutely than others. So if you feel the presence of evil, chances are it's up to no good.
As a Christian, I don't believe in ghosts; but I do believe there's a counter-force that's present in this world. It exists to supernaturally drive us away from everything that's good.
Christian Scripture gives good advice about a situation such as this -- you're well-read, so I'm sure it'll sound familiar: "resist the devil and he will flee from you."

This all depends. It sounds as though you're not a Christian, because if you were, you would have known how to handle it. (thats not an insult) 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
you-know-who is just waiting for the right time to strike at you. He can't wait until you are at your weakest moment, and then he will devour you like a roaring lion. but there is hope!

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.
Jesus Christ is just waiting for you to turn to Him for help. He loves you so much and wants you to be free of the slavery of sin. He wants you to turn to Him for help in the times you feel evil is all around you. He is our hope, our love, our Father. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the father but through Him. It's so easy for you to turn to Him and love Him as He loves you. Just do what I like to call, the ABC's.
A--admit that you are a sinner and you need Jesus Christ in your life.
B--believe that Jesus Christ came to earth and died for your sins, was burried, and on the third day, arose up from the grave, and now lives in Heaven.
C--commit your life to Him. Get a Bible. Get into His word. Find out what His plan for your life is.
After you do all of this, and keep your eyes upon him, you wont even think of being scared of that kind of stuff!
