Honestly--when you CAN'T sell it on ebay.
Only taxpayers who itemize (on a Schedule A) can claim a charitable deduction anyway. And in order to itemize, your personal deductions must equal more than the standard deduction.

More profitable? It isn't, from a strict money standpoint. If you donate it for a tax deduction, the deduction is only what the fair market value of the item is, and your tax savings is that times your tax bracket, so at most would be 35% of the value of the item and then only if you're in that bracket.

There would be no way to determine that from the information available. A donation to charity is only deductible if you itemize your deduction on Schedule A. Unless you normally us Schedule a there is no gain from donations.

This is what I do. First I try to sell it on ebay for what I want. If it dose not sell I donate it charity. Donate at the end of the year. You win both ways. Hope this helps.
