Does it matter how a person interprets the bible whether they interpret everything literally or even if they interpret the bible metaphorically and symbolically? Does it matter if the person is a Fundamental/ Conservative Christian or a Liberal Christian? Does a person have to be a Fundamental/Conservative Protestant or Liberal Protestant or Catholic? Does it matter what denomination a person is?

I think the Bible has its pros and cons. I have always felt that it did not treat women fairly, but, on the other hand, it has some great stories that offer insight into situations that just never seem to change with time. There are still prostitutes, thieves, liars, etc.

I almost want to compare the Bible to the Iliad or the Odyssey because it is definitely an epic novel. I wonder sometimes if the stories hold any truth, but I know in my heart they are God-breathed and although the Bible was translated by seventy scholars, it has stayed around for divine reasons.

I think the most important aspect of Christianity is each individual's relationship with the Lord. I know it sounds corny, but there it is, in a nutshell (it is what it is, right?!!!).

I think the passages of the Bible can be interpreted in many different ways, but what one person perceives from one passage may mean something completely different to another person of the same denomination.

It is my opinion that each person has the option to make the choice of accepting Jesus as their personal Lord and savior. Beyond that, it doesn't matter what denomination a person is, because all those roads lead up the same mountain, if you know what I mean.

Belief in and total surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ. Or simply as fireball226 said "being born again!" Next in importance is obedience. Jesus said "If you love me keep my commandments" James said " Faith without works(obedience) is dead" Paul said " Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound? Heaven forbid" So it is quite clear that your best attempts of obedience are required although notrhing but the blood of Jesus will get you into heaven. Now as far as whether you are conservative or liberal etc is a matter of the heart. Is your heart truly toward the King of Kings? If yes then I dont think it matters what label you or anyone else puts on you. The same goes for denomination, is your heart right? . I believe there will be people from nearly every denomination both Protestants and Catholics who will enter into the Kingdom of God . I say all this with one qualifier. That it does matter how a person interprets the Bible. If you interpret it to allow certain engagements with amoral lifestyles like homosexuality, witchcraft, and etc, which are expressly and directly called sin and forbidden in the Bible, you are only fooling yourself . Also beware of cults that add to the word of God ( Mormanism) and take away the divinity of Christ ( Jehovahs Witnesses) A literal interpretation of the Bible will definately keep you out of trouble. Most of all concerning the interpretation of the Bible pray to God for wisdom to understand and interpret correctly before reading His word . God will guide you when your heart is complete towards Him. God bless you Cap'nArlo

The most important aspect of Christianity is forgiveness.

It does matter how one interprets the Bible. The texts are usually based on translations and transliterations of the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts.

These have idioms, figures of speech, colloquialisms and so forth which have specific meaning the context of the era in which they were in common use.

Therefore, passages may be misinterpreted if a literal meaning is taken where a figurative meaning is implied; or an idiom or other figure of speech is misconstrued.

Aside from that, being nondenominational myself i don't feel that wings or labels or specific variants of Christianity are as significant as their beliefs and teachings.

I think it really doesn't matter which denomination of Christitanity you are. And I don't think there is a set of requirements to spend eternity with God, I think as long as you accept him as your savior and repent after you make mistakes, you will be born again. Also, I don't think it matters how you interpret the Bible. One person may think Adam and Eve were actually there and the world was created in 7 days, and another person might think it's a metaphor for 4,000,000 years and humans evolved. As long as you love Jesus, you're good.

In my opinion, it literally comes down to the question "What would Jesus do?" He was all about love, respect, and kindness. We are supposed to live by His example. Which in fact makes Christianity so much closer to Judaism than a lot of people see or recognize. To live by Jesus' example, as He suggested, would be to live as the Jews.

To some, it means everything to be affiliated with one denomination. I grew up Catholic. But that doesn't mean that others are not similar.I do not use the Bible. It has been proven that Constantine rewrote it to fit his own purposes. Then, a statue of him was put up in front of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, much to my surprise when I saw it. SO I believe in the Old Testament. But so do the Jews. We are so similar.

My advice is to follow your heart. Jesus knows what is in it, and he will show you the way, if you listen.

Jesus said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. This is the best we can do in reverence to the character of God. If your church group doesn't do this they're wastin yours and their time regardless of cult, sect, and denomination.

Read the bible with an open mind and honest heart for what it is and it will interpret itself.

God bless

The most important aspect of Christianity is that when we yet sinners ,Christ died for us and rose again on the third day. Without this basic tenet, it would not really mattered what aspect of Christianity you have because it would be meaningless and Christians would be the most pitiable of people. For the Christian the death, resurrection , ascension of Christ and the sending of the Spirit are the reasons why Christians can profess to be Christian.

The most important aspect of Christianity is compassion. This is expressed in various ways, as "loving one's enemies", "turning the other cheek", "serving the lowest", etc. More than any other idea, Jesus emphasized the need to see divinity in the poorest and most needy among humanity: the hungry, the unclothed, the sick, the impris--

Uh, excuse me. My pastor is reminding me of a few other things, like the importance of tithing, and of obedience to authority, and reciting our creed regularly, and fighting against-- oh, I think I'll just stop here.

Think about this for a moment. When we get to Heaven and stand before God, Do you suppose He Is going to ask us "what" denomination are you? Certainly NOT. He has been looking at Our Heart All along. He's checking us out to see if we ever accepted Jesus, His SON. (IN HIS Book of Life) He's looking for Our Name. NO DENOMINATION!! You Just Have to Be SAVED! Thru Jesus, OUR LORD. +
