Absolutely, drinking diet sodas hinders weight loss because diet drinks are high in sodium. The extra sodium can cause bloating, which is contrary to weight loss. It is much better to drink plain, cold water. (cold water gets to muscles faster, esp after exercising!). If you don't like plain water, try some of the flavored waters, or better yet, put some lemon juice, or a small splash of your favorite natural juice into a cup of ice water. Enjoy!

1. Teeth risks. Soda is actually highly acidic and erodes tooth enamel. This isn't the traditional 'sugar rots your teeth' type of thing. That's just dental hygiene. This is instead a slow wearing away of the enamel, so you can have teeth that seem fine, but have more vulnerable enamel. 2. People who drink Diet soda are actually more likely to be heavier than people who drink regular soda (seriously, study and everything. Noted below). However, this is not necessarily a causative effect. That's not known. There does seem to be an issue with... I guess it's like mixed signals we are giving the body. A certain taste may trigger our body to prepare to receive calories. When it doesn't, it may actually trigger the body to try and GET them, prompting us to eat more in the hours after having a diet soda. There aren't any definitive studies on humans, yet, but there are some animal studies that do suggest this is a possibility. the below link on gaining weight mentions this in the second half of the article. 3. Lack of hydration - put simply, your body needs water. If you feel thirsty, your body is trying to signal that it requires water. If you, instead, give it soda, you get less water and add other ingredients your body doesn't require. That's going to affect your body's ability to work properly, whatever you are trying to do with it, including weight. Now, if you drink more water and continued drinking the coke, well, that might take care of this issue in some ways.

I drink about that much a day in diet sodas and have been exercising and eating healthy most of the time and have still lose weight. So whoever said you can't lose weight if you drink sodas I think had a problem...Sometimes I think it helps me eat less because when I'm craving sweets after dinner and I already had my dessert, I will have a diet soda instead.

No, it shouldn't. However, diet colas have been linked to lower bone density (another health problem), so if you haven't already, you might want to add calcium to your diet. Also, I've read (but am not sure I believe) that diet sodas can fuel appetite. If you are watching what you're eating anyway, this shouldn't be a problem.

Drinking Diet coke is like drinking regular coke. Yes, it has less calories, but lets consider something else: There is lots of sugar, caffeine, and sodium in Diet coke to "reduce" calories, when really, it's bringing more calories into your body! Sugar, caffeine, and sodium have TONS of calorie and fat! Best bet is to stay away from the soda/pop while on a diet.

I don't think it's that big a deal. 44 oz is a LOT though. I'd go with a smaller, say 20 oz serving. Water is best.

I've been told by my personal trainer that nothing is conclusive about that fact, but that some doctors believe it slows down the bodys ability to burn off fat.
