that is the biggest question I have in relation to my cat too. I love her alot, but I don't know if I could deal with giving her children away once she and I become so attached to them, and then wonder if I made the right choice afterwards, and if they are ok. Normally the desire to have kittens will fade with the animal though once they have been fixed.

NO! Get her spayed ASAP!

Look in a shelter and see how many cats and kittens need homes and ask yourself if adding to that is the responsible thing to do.

There is no need for your cat to have a litter before being spayed-that's an old myth.

I rescued a cat and her litter once. I brought them home, the kittens were only about 2 weeks old according to my vet. When I took her in to get fixed after her milk dried up (around 9 weeks) The vet exclaimed that she was pregnant AGAIN (she was strickly an indoor cat when I got her, and my male was fixed so she was pregnant right after having the litter). I told the vet to go ahead and fix her anyway...
She didn't have any change in temperment or look like she was "missing" anything. I think its very important to just go ahead and fix her. Some may say its cruel, but I got that momma kitty and her babies because someone didn't take care of the responsibility of fixing them in the first place. Not isn't THAT was is really cruel? If I didnt take her, lord knows how many litters she would have had. and how many babies would be out there roaming around and producing too.
Finding a good home is great..but by fixing her, you can GUARENTEE that there will be no problems.

Humm.. this is a good question!!

I had a cat once that I let have a litter before having her fixed. She got MEAN after she was fixed and searched for months for her kittens, even though we kept one of them. I had to have the Mom put down because she became so mean no one could be near her without getting torn to shreds, my vet said it would be the best thing.

I have had a vet tell me also it is better health wise to have them altered before the first heat. That I would check with your vet on that, because this is going off MY memory! lol

There are so many adult and baby kittens out there in need of GOOD homes, I would have to agree for that reason alone just to have her altered. Keep her sweet and loving, and just give her the best home you can! She will be fine without ever becoming a Mom :)

NO!!!! By letting her have a litter you are adding to the total pool of cats and kittens looking for a home. As it is there are thousands of animals euthanized each day due to overpopulation. Homeless animals, shelter overcrowding and needless animal suffering and dying are a national crisis. The best policy is always always always spay and neuter. Rest assured that there will always be kittens born during kitten season if you really want one, but please don't contribute to this already bad problem.

Afew years ago a vet would insist that a domestic animal had a litter before being done. It was believed that the animal would have problems later in life if it did not perform the natural function of giving birth . This is not the case today due to so many kittens and puppies being abandoned. It's up to you how you go about this but either way your cat won't be pleased

My cat got spayed without ever having a litter, how do you feel about having a baby taken from you after a few weeks of looking after it, loving it and protecting it. Even cats grieve for there lost kittens its my personal view that its cruel to the mother. I wouldnt like to be pregnant, go through the trauma and pain of giving birth for someone to come along and take my child from me, would you. I firmly believe that what youve never had you will never miss.

I think it's fairer to get her spayed. If you let her have a litter, not only will she have an awareness of what she is missing but you will ultimately have to separate her kittens from her (unless you are able to keep them). If you get her spayed first, she will remain none the wiser.

There are also lots of cats and kittens out there who need homes; why add to the number?

As most people have said, i would also say NO. Pregnancy can be very dangerous, especially for young cats, is it worth the risk? There's no gurantees she'd be a good mother, you may end up hand rearing a whole litter of kittens and/or losing your cat.Get her spayed ASAP.

a great form of human beings hear that having a clutter of kittens facilitates cats mature, yet please re-evaluate this. to boot to the different motives published here - having a clutter does not help with maturing; each of the homeless kittens who would be euthanized - your cat could have an exceedingly tough time of it. no longer in common terms could her character replace from candy to distant, yet she could have a no longer difficulty-free time of the transport. My husband, who had delivered a loving little cat living house, insisted that he knew "all approximately cats" and that she had to have a clutter until eventually now being spayed. properly, all 4 kittens have been the two stillborn or somewhat alive .... and my cat delivered each to me and laid it at my ft while it had ultimately died. A nightmare I by no potential decide to repeat and that i'm hoping you do no longer circulate with the aid of. Please circulate to a preserve and supply a candy kitten a solid living house! And get your cat spayed.
