I can't figure out how they come up with saving energy by prolonging it. Now, in my mind, prolonging it consumes more energy (A/C running longer, etc). Also, why are we going through the rigamorow of changing times, why not just tack on 1/2 an hour and leave it that way? By the time I finally adjust to the time change, it's almost time to change back, then I've got to get used to that one too!

It saves energy, but that’s not what it was for. It was so farmers had more time in the field during the summer. Also it now allows people in the spring and summer to go out after work while its still light out. This allows business to make more money. People are driving more and using more gas suring the spring and summer and on top of people being able to go out during daylight after work teens are now out driving during the say because they are out of school. And since teens like to drive fast and dont really care about the gas they are using they are using the most gas.

The point of Daylight Savings is to save energy by having more daylight during your normal awake and working hours. In the spring and summer the amount of daylight time increases, so we change time to make our working hours right in the middle of those daylight hours. If you are awake and doing stuff in the daylight, you won't need to turn on as many lights, thus saving energy. And as for running the A/C, just open a window, or go outside, or at least use Energy Star equipment.

No you're not nuts. The common theory is that it is for the children to have light on school mornings, when in fact they push the time back in the fall. The real reason is simple economics. Business lobbied congress for a way to get people to go to the mall after work or after dinner or both and they find that if there is light, people do not stay home. Voila there Daylight Savings Time. This year they are really stretching it out, and we will have actually have 9 mo of DST and only 3 mo of 'standard' time.

Efficiency - I think the more use of daylight, the more productive people are. Also, although I agree with your comment on the A/C running longer, if people had to work in an office at night, the A/C would still be running and also lots of lights would have to be turned on, and light produces heat. There are more efficient technologies now, maybe it could get to the point where lights don't get as hot anymore and then working at night with the a/c not running as much might help. I know what you mean, it messes up my internal clock too.

It's all about the Benjamins! LOL
It was first suggest by Benjamin Franklin to adjust the hours for farming purposes if I remember right. Since farmer get up at first light. However, that's not why it was finally put in place. It's doesn't save energy, just makes money for business.

It does not make experience. they might enable you comprehend that they are increasing the quantity of hours we are up while the sunlight is up yet this is all bunk. They prolonged daylight hours mark downs and via the three greater desirable weeks i became up before and had to apply the lights through fact it became nonetheless freaking darkish. till now the exchange it became getting basically mild adequate as I woke that i did no longer might desire to apply them. i think of this is doing the different. yet of direction we had greater mild interior the evening. Yea like i in my opinion choose the sunlight to be up at 10:00 PM while i'm attempting to get to sleep.

It has nothing to do with energy.
It has to do with business and making money. If they shift the time to allow more daylight AFTER everyone gets off work, they will feel more like going out and spending their money.
When it's dark out, most people won't go anywhere and leave errands for the weekend.

One of the main reasons that they turn the time back in the Fall is because kids are having to stand outside in the dark to catch the bus early in the morning.

I have to agree--I think it upsets our circadian rhythms so much that we probably offset any energy gains in lost productivity at work! It takes me a good 6 wks to adjust each time, so you're not alone (nor are you nuts--i think that was your question!)
