I am trying to install a 320GB harddrive in my new PC. unfortunetly the win xp cd that i have is the original xp (pre sp1) and it is restricting my hd to 137GB. i have updated the OS with SP2 and with all of the other critical and non-critical updates but still cant get OS to recognize the HD. My mobo recognises the drive so there is no issue with the BIOS. i tried to modify the registry by adding EnableBigLba to the parameter section and still no luck, unless i was adding it to the wrong section. i will greatly appreciate any feedback from the PC gurus here. Thank you all in advance.

It's possible the version of XP you have can only create a 137GB NTFS partition. Get software like Norton Partition Magic, if the partition size is the case this can enlarge it so it takes up the entire disk. You can also create a separate partition to keep your files on that will appear as another disk.

as long as you have a valid XP Key for that computing gadget, you ought to objective going to a close-by computing gadget shop and asking them to burn you a replica of XP professional or abode for that computing gadget. (Which ever it became working... a house XP Key won't artwork with a expert CD and vice versa) I had to try this as quickly as and it fee me ten funds CND which while in comparison with the hours it would take you to construct a CD, rather well worth the fee.

"My mobo recognizes the drive so there is no issue with the BIOS" is NOT true.

You need to update the BIOS firmware to see the larger HDD from the mobo web site.
