I noticed that my favorite cereal, Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds, is pretty high in calories. (130 for a 32 gram serving) In a 32 gram serving of the plain Honey Bunches of Oats Honey Roasted, there is 128 calories. I am pretty sure the extra calories in the Almond flavor is because of the extra fat that the almonds provide. (good fat of course) I'd love to keep eating these, but I'm afraid that if I do, I'd get fat or something. Is this cereal ok to eat for breakfast in the morning? Or is it just another calorie-dense fattening cereal like Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

You may want to check the fiber content. The healtiest cereals are whole grain and low in sugar, and provide several grams of fiber. Look for at least one gram on fiber per 100 calories so your 130 calorie serving should have at least a gram and a half of fiber. Fat from the almonds is good, but I'd be careful of added sugar... that is often the cause of excess calories. All in all though, 130 calories doesn't sound too bad... if you still to the serving size listed on the package.

It's definately not the healthiest cereal, but It's better than, say, Cocoa Pebbles. Actually, Cinnamon Toast Crunch isn't too bad, for a cereal marketed to kids. With both of them, I mix them with something healthier, like Cheerios (or the Trader Joe's equivelant) or Kashi. Just read the ingredients. The ones I avoid are corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oil, hydrogenated oils.

Recently, I got a box of Kroger (grocery store) brand raisin bran. After I brought it home and had some, I was disgusted to see that there was high fructose corn syrup in it. Fortunately, it was free, so I at least didn't spend any money on it. Still, I plan on writing the company. Raisins are sweet enough. I guess if I want raisin bran in the future, I'll just buy a box of bran flakes (assuming they're safe) and add raisins. Or, I'll just add them to my oatmeal.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

If you're watching your weight, don't eat cereal. A lot of cereal is just candy in milk, including honey bunches. Milk as well is great if you're trying to add extra calories in your diet, but usually should be avoided. I'll have milk to boost my cal intake in MRPs but cereal is a rare treat.

It is not the healthiest one. It has a lot of sugar, which most cereals do. Even cheerios adds sugar. You need to look at the sugar content and also the fiber content. Try to eat whole grain cereals. If you need to sweeten them, use splenda.
