She is suffering pretty badly - there is a constant sharp pain, her hand and wrist are very weak - she has even dropped a peice of paper before and is scared she may drop her baby. She is a single mother and has no one around to help her during the day with her baby and thus is in desperate need of some relief - does anyone have any suggestions?

Ibuprofen or Tylenol. Plus, get some wrist braces, this will keep the wrists straight and help prevent irritation to those nerves.

My friend had Carpal Tunnel after she had her baby. Her Carpal Tunnel eventually went away with time.

carpal Tunnel can only be addressed with laser or invasive surgery. An anti inflammatory such as advil or ibuprofen will ease her symptoms of pain. Wrist braces with metal bars that support the wrist and do not allow it to move, if worn everyday, will aid in alleviating some of her problem. When she can, she needs to get this taken care of because it only gets worse.

The CTS may resolve after she goes back to her former body state before the pregnancy. She had a lot of excess fluid when she was pregnant hence the exacerbation of the CTS. If it doesn't settle after a few more months, then she may need surgery. I would advise against carrying her baby-she might drop the baby on to the floor.

Ice and massage on the wrist areas. Also immobilizing the wrists with braces will help. Most carpal tunnel surgeries are completely unnecessary. If it doesn't improve, a chiropractor can help her with the problem. I know you said she was a single mom, and most chiropractors will help people even if they have trouble paying. I know we do.

Her local pharmacy should have a special wrist harness that will keep her from bending her wrist, after several months, the inflammation in her wrist should be somewhat less painful.

Pain pills and surgery.

Surgery relieves most pain almost immediately.

Tell her in the meantime, be sure she's not curling her hands (sort of like fetal position) when she sleeps.

It's going to only get worse (the pain, the weakness) if she continues to wait.

Good luck.
