I would never want to set another person on fire. I wouldn't want them to do that to me either.

PWatson, I see what you're saying, but why not get rid of hell? It's just as horrible as the Spanish Inquisition, even worse.

You are correct. Hell is incompatible with the golden rule and any form of love or morality. If there is a god then he would not have created it, not have allowed it to exist and would not send GOOD people there just because they did not love him.

Hell is a man-made story to scare people into following orders.

Because it is a choice of the person going there. If he or she has been offered Christ while here on earth and said no (as many here have), then why would God force them to spend time with Him in eternity if they did not want to spend time with him here?
Is it the "Golden Rule" to force people to be saved? Judging by the Spanish Inquisition I would say no.

It's a good thing you are not God because you would have to set a WHOLE LOT of people on fire. Of course I don't really know why he HAS to do it at all. I guess he's just mean.

If it were possible (and it is not), God would wish hell upon Himself if he fell short of His own holiness. We are sinners and we deserve Hell. If you rob a store and a judge sends you to jail you would not think that he has no interest in the golden rule. He would be just. God is just in sending you to hell for falling short of His glory. Believe in Christ, crucified in the place of believers, and you will not go there; continue in unbelief, and you may be there before the day is out!

Okay, so because we don't want to see people go to Hell, we share the gospel with them, like we are commanded to, and we atleast give them a fighting chance.

Hell is actually water, where peoples' feet are attached to concrete blocks.

There is a difference between personal revenge and vigilantism and eternal justice. When a court sentences a murderer, they are not being selfish or petty, they are dispensing justice and so is God. He is our authority.
