If it is tacked down under the trim against the wall, just a pry bar or your hands and pull the carpet up and off of the tack strips, to remove the tack strips you will need a pry bar/hammer to pull the nails and wood strips up. If the carpet is glued to the floor you will need time, patience and a scraper or visit the hardware store and ask about glue removers to help with the job. Good luck. Have done both and way much prefer tack strips. The glue is alot of work.

A razor knife, gloves, hammer, twine. Helps to cut the carpet in managable strips and tie it with twine or duct tape to haul away. The hammer is to pound down any nail strips that come up in process,. good luck its a FUN JOB!!
