transmitters? I am trying to better myself and I will no longer take into account any hadith without looking it up for the transmission and I will not ever post a hadith without listing the transmission or a link to it inshallah. I will also inshallah learn even more about the transmitters themselves. I think ppl not having studied the science of hadith has caused too many problems.

Any site in English or even in Arabic as I will have my husband help me with it since my Arabic isn't so good.

Sarah T--actually I am not just talking about ppl here on YA although that is very true. And I am currently taking courses in Isamic Studies (along with other things). Furthermore, yes, Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are usually considered the most reliable of all the collections. But I see lots of ppl quoting other collections. And I have seen first hand somebody take two hadiths from two different books and cut parts out from each and add them together to make a 'hadith' of 3 or 4 sentances and call it a hadith. When I brought it up they told me 'we shouldn't even be discussing this'.

also, of course it doesn't make one an expert but it allows ppl to see the chain and come up with their own conclusion--it's the only way to be completely transparent

Personally I would suggest investing in a good set of Muslim and/or Bukhari books.

I don't know any site that lists all the transmitters but also have used http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/reference/searchhadith.html

They have the two listed above and also a partial of Abu-Dawud and a complete of Malik's Muwatta.

I'm not sure who you are referring to when you say that ppl haven't studied the science of hadeeth. If you are talking about most of us on Y!A I am sure you are 100% correct. Of course the ones who did the collecting (i.e. Muslim, Buhkari) did the investigation into the chain of transmitters mashaAllah. So referencing hadeeth from them is very reliable though no one should think that having these reference materials is like being a scholar or having all the information a scholar has obtained.

May Allah reward you for your struggle.

I don;t knwo any that lists the whole chain of narration unfortunately. The ones I frequent are:

http://sahihalbukhari.com
http://sahihmuslim.com

There is also a hadith search option on islamicity.com

Hope this helps!

I would invest in the Sahih Muslim and Bukhari book collection inshaAllah :)

Most of the Hadith was gathered from bits of paper and notes and such that were collected hundreds of years after Mohammed existed. Most are just bits of the Bible or other meaningless things. There's no real valid link back to Mohammed's time.
