I have done the transfer as you all described but I can't view the pictures on my digital picture fram

yes
it has to be from the same camera
they can't be altered
open up memory card folder
open up computer picture folder
drag and drop

Yes.

Connect the camera to the USB and turn it on.

Open the folder containing the files to copy.

Select the files.

Click the EDIT menu and choose COPY TO FOLDER

Navigate to the Camera's media card then click the COPY button

NOTES: Some cameras don't allow this operation by not showing the device in the drive listing (Some Sonys). Some Kodaks show in the list but don't allow copying back to the card. Your camera may show up as a removable drive. Finally, some cameras will allow the transfer, but the pictures won't show on the LCD screen (especially if they've been renamed or modified). A card reader device like a picture frame or WalMart kiosk should still see the pictures.

A card reader is way easier and doesn't rely on camera batteries.

Yes, you need to purchase an SD Card reader which you can attach using a USB cable. They can be purchased at a best buy, circut city etc. If your computer comes with an SD card reader built in you can just put the SD card in the slot. Once you have either one, go to My computer and you should have an SD card icon there. Just double click on it and you can drag the photos right into it.
