I ride a bicycle, just shy of ten miles. It takes me just under 30 minutes depneding on stoplights. Sometimes afterwork I take a long ride home, through backroads and farmland, for an extra hour or so. It does wonders for my mental state. I often walk in the front door and greet my wife and children with a smile.
I can fill my gas tank and have it last almost two months during the summer, if I limit weekend trips.

My answer is 0. I live in a small city two blocks from where I work. I have always managed to be in walking distance from my work places. Luckily, where I live in Northern New York State no one drives far for anything. The way gas and car prices are I believe more people will be seeing the value of this. It adds hundreds of dollars to your wallet each year (if not more) and it allows so much less wear on your car. I would never move to a more affluent part of the country because that would probably mean having to drive for ages each day. Not worth it!!!! Not with our winters and I love the extra time it gives me.

11 miles through heavy city traffic and it's bad enough. Typically it takes 30 minutes each way.
You people driving 50+ miles are insane. Why don't you just move? I'd rather live in an apartment than drive that far.

It all depends on where the job is every day and how critical the call is. I am a field service engineer computer repair. Some days it is 0 mi. working from home, other days 369 mi. and 3 cities later. I always drive whatever is necessary to get the job done and be home at night even if it is one AM.

My commute is right at 13 miles each way. In the morning, I can take the freeway if I leave before 7:00 am and it only takes me 20-25 minutes if there are no accidents. On the way home, I take surface streets due to traffic conditions and it takes me 45-55 minutes. I notice it's taking me longer because the Silicon Valley is once again "booming" and more people are working; hence more traffic.
