I think that There is a God who created the world and died for our sins but He cannot be like everyone says. Can anyone help me out here? Is there a religion that also believes in this?

Clarifying.
I know there is a God (Im sorry, I know it was Jesus who died...it must have slipped my mind) And I believe that he created the world as mentioned above. I believe that he died for our sins. I grew up in a Catholic home if that is any help. But I believe that God watches over us. I dont believe that he can hear ALL of our prayers. I dont believe that he rose again. I dont believe he has the power to send people to hell or to heaven. Im just confused I guess, I shouldnt have asked if Im not totally sure of what im trying to ask sorry guys.

Can you post a little more to clarify? You said "He cannot be like everyone says.". What do you think he's like, and what don't you agree with about what others say of him?

This will help answer your initial question... Thanks for clarifying!!! My thoughts, though long are below.

So in "Christian" terms you don't believe that Jesus was who he claimed to be (Son of God, sent to die as a sacrifice once for all) which hinged on his resurrection. All of the books in the new testament of the Bible after the four gospels are written from the belief that Jesus rose from the dead. The apostles who started the movement did so in reaction to their encounters with the risen Christ. So my assumption would be that any Christian denomination would not align with what you believe.

Your belief that God can NOT hear all our prayers is what makes it difficult for me to think of a "mainstream" faith that you would classify yourself as other than Deist. You believe in a higher power, but not specifically the God of Judaism, Christianity or Islam.

I ask (sincerely, not talking down to you or with any tone of judgment), how do you reconcile your belief that God created everything, yet doesn't have power to send people (his creation) to heaven or hell? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on that, seriously.

My conviction/decision came at a point in time where I realized that Jesus was one of two things. He was either a complete nut job or he was who he said he was. People who claim he was a good teacher, a prophet, etc may not have studied what he taught and said.

A prophet is a messenger for someone else, a prophet would not claim to be God. Jesus did. I had trouble understanding how people could say someone was wise and a great teacher if half the things he said were insane if he was not actually the son of God.

My personal faith is in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. Good luck to you as you continue on your spiritual journey. Keep reading and keep talking about what you belief. Good discussions will continue to help you clarify and understand what you believe as well as challenge what you accept as truth.

God Bless!

Belief is unfortunatly only part of the journey, faith is what you should be striving for. Questioning the power of God and his son Jesus shows that. Think about the power of the sun, the sea, the wind - the complexity of life, feelings - the end, death.
All this only reflects the personality of the creator whom is God and his name is Jehovah. All things were created via his son the word also known as Jesus the Christ( in human form). Do not follow others but seek the truth with a humble and trusting soul for Jehovah will not forsake you. How? Read the bible - ask in prayer to Jehovah in the name of Jesus to send you his helper - the holy spirit to guide you. In the end you will be held accountable for your soul so do not follow what others do rather find your own path to God.

Build on the true foundation and stand strong on your own two because the beast lurks in the shadows and if you sleep in the battle that will be a tale you wont live to tell.
Wear truth as a belt, righteousness as a breastplate, salvation as a helmet, readiness to pronounce the good news as sandals, faith as a shield and the word as a sword.
Do you have what it takes can you react when your soul is at stake? Jesus did and he was human and was born into sin just like me and you.

You're looking for a Christian style religion (you believe in God and Jesus), but one where they don't hold supreme and ultimate power? Or just that his nature isn't as people says? Just looking to clarify.

You could look into Deism. That would cover the "God isn't as people say" angle, but you're going to have a hard time finding a religion, even a marginal one, that doesn't think he's mostly all powerful. You can find ones that don't think he's all good, but rarely one that thinks he's anything less than omnipotent. Still, if he created the world, you must think he's got something up his sleeves.

The first question you need to ask yourself is this:

When confronted with what you see, why do you still believe in a god at all, if you think he's less than everything?

Well, you know. I congratulate you for asking this question because not many people would take the time to ask that. Well, I think Jesus was and always have been the same as all of us. It's just that he remembers (the key word is remember here) the purpose of our life. I'm not going to tell what the purpose is because you can find that in the book "conversations with God". This book can tell you much more than I can and it's an absolutely incredible read. It's by Neale Donald Walsch.

It is called satanism. Even the devil believes in God and trembles but he is in rebellion against God.

Now I want to ask you a question. If you believe God created, how come you do not believe he can destroy it or change it. If i do a cross stitch picture or crochet an afgan or build a wooden shelf though the first to be complex in design I know how to destroy or change it. God created man in His likeness and image. Creating male and female. He gave us choice rather then making us robots. He has choice. Now why God does n't stop evil, because he could, is He wants man to take the initiative to love. Plus He wants people to come to Him out of love. God has created evil for a special day Christian call judgment day. All evil will be wiped out.

What it seems is that your beliefs in your religion is sorta a cross between Christianity,Judaism, and Muslim.Christianity as i hope you know, believes that God is all powerful and rules over everything and created the Earth.Judaism believes that God is real and created the Earth and rules over everything but they believe that Jesus Christ is yet to come.I believe Muslim believes in Jesus but just believe he was a prophet. They worship the God Allah.I hope that helped in your spiritual journey.I advise before you make any life changing decisions you research thoroughly. My answer is just a summary of the religions.

Why do you believe God has so little power?

Actually, God is power. Everything he is: he defines. He is love; He is power & strength; He is mercy: He is holy. He is the definition of those words.

Man has a big hand in his own destiny. We have dominion on the earth - so the mess is about our own choices and consequences of our choices (and other choices made for us and before us) God holds it all together, but we partner with him in many ways. For example, prayer and faith play an important role in how things happen in the earth. I don't think many Christians spend much time in prayer and Bible study.

God won't do what we are assigned to do...........it's the way He set it up. Free will plays a huge role in the condition of our lives. However, free will demonstrates God's great love for us - He allows us to choose to follow Him.

Deism is what you're looking for.

Taoism also, thought it's a bit less "deity" oriented.

Either way, they're not really dogmas anyway. It's just a simple belief in some sort of energy or god that's behind the universe.

Edit - And FYI, I consider that a fine way to live your life. I've never taken issue with anyone that believes in a higher power. Dogma is the only problem, as I see it.

Boy oh boy...You are opening a big can of worms with this question.

You are going to get 100 Christians flying off the handle. Enjoy.

God. First off, god is not a name. It's a title. God is bigger than the little boxes we put him(or her) into called "religion."

Think of it like this: Everywhere and everything that is...is god. God is, as MK Gandhi stated in his book The Way to God (and I'm pararphrasing here) "God is all that is good...and evil. He behind the surgeon's scalpel, and the assasin's knife. God is all that is light and dark."

So...finally...in answer to your question: Religion is what you percieve god to be. Hindus believe in hundreds of thousands of gods...who are all part of one. Look into Eastern religions who recognize the validity of other's beliefs...because who can say that their's is the "god of gods" better than all the rest...and really know?

I have a friend who absolutely doesn't agree with organized religion, yet he considers himself a spiritual man. He believes in God and Jesus, but doesn't think that churches help him. So, he just goes to the woods a couple times a month to experience nature. To him, that is being close to God. If that's what would make you happy, do that.
