Why aren't Christians doing greater works than Jesus did, since he himself said they would (John 14:12)? The context is clearly referring to miracles. Do you think being able to quote the bible is enough or do you think you should put some of these passage's written into practice?

Yes, we should be putting these passages into practice. When Jesus said, we would do greater works than He did, He was not referring to an individual...He was saying the church, the body of Christ - His body, would do greater works...that collectively we would do greater works than He did.

As a whole the church is doing that. You may not be in a place where you see miracles happening every day, or deliverance or healing but I am sure on some level there is something happening in your life.

For one thing, it is Jesus that you get the power from to work those miracles you speak of. If you are not doing things according to what He said to do it, why should He give you that power? When the time is right, it will happen but until then we have to just do what we can and try to get our lives straightened out and into His will.

I walk the walk every day..
I live by those passages you are talking about.
What makes you think believers aren't doing enough.. I want to do these things, reach out to others and witness....
No mere human can perform a miracle, Jesus does that...

Let's consider just one work that Jesus did...surely one of His very greatest works...He raised Lazarus from his tomb.
So, where can I go to talk to Lazarus? If Jesus brought him to life, shouldn't he be, well....alive?
Of course not, you will say. It's been 2,000 years, do you have any idea how old the guy would have to be??
And you are correct...Lazarus is dead.
Every person Jesus healed, or brought to life, has died since.

But He has given to His followers an even greater power. He has given them the power to give people His gift of eternal life.
When I, or any other Christian, brings someone to Jesus, we bring Him from death to eternal life.
To be sure, we can only have this awesome power because Jesus has gone back to His Father in Heaven. We can only extend to others the same invitation He has given to us...and through us, to the world.
"Come unto Me", says Jesus,
"And live....."

You are right we are supposed to be allowing God to perform miracles through us, the problem is that you must have 100% unwavering faith for this to happen like it should. In todays world with all the garbage that is going on and the people in the world it is very hard to have unwavering faith.

We are to do good works, but not go around boasting about it.
Mat 6:3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what you right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I'm not the kind of Christian who reads the Bible. I have faith in God not men, BUT you are very right, not many people live by what they read

I don't think that the context is "clearly referring to miracles"

And I try to do the best that I can!
