Look up what the original crusades were about. 3 campaigns that lasted decades each - bloody fighting in the Middle East, Christian vs Muslim, and it was gruesome with no clear winner, just lots of animosity. (Except for Saladin, who was pretty cool)
To bring that back means that same kind of endless war of attrition, based on religion, in todays culture (with todays weapons). Not a good thing

I suppose people long for the days when you can kill another person if they don't share the same religious superstition they do.
