when a Nazi saw the massacre of Nanking, he couldn't help himself to say that "Japanese troops are a group of beasts much crueler than anything in the world.

The RUSSIANS in WW2 were barbaric. They raped over 15 million women and children (ages 8-80), over 10% of who died later. They also went out of their way (they were just supposed to capture Berlin) to go down to Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, etc. and rape them all, too.

Here is my source:

I however, agree that Japan was quite extreme in WW2. They raped and killed everyone, and sent all the women to those "rape camps". The Germans weren't that extreme.

The German soldier was a well trained and equipped soldier and did extremely well during the war sometimes under impossible odds. The Japanese on the other hand were trained to fight and win at all costs. And yes until they admit to Nanking they are beasts.

In order to answer this question you'd have to look at all of the facts. Remember, the concentration camps weren't just for the Jews. There were Gypsies, Homosexuals, and political prisoners as well. Mengel, (one of Hitler's Henchmen) would place people into boiling water, so that their flesh was easier for him to cut off, and without giving the victim anesthesia. And yet, little coverage was pointed towards the Japanese and their "Medical Research".
Basically, there is no comparison, cruel is cruel, and there should be no measurement of what is worse. Once you begin to act inhumanely, you've crossed a line.

German soldier of World War II is guilty of war crimes also. In the former Yugoslavia they executed hostages every time on of there own soldiers were killed. The executed uniformed commandos when captured as well. Yes, the SS is guilty of far more crimes than the average German soldier but the German soldier did commit them also. Now not every German soldier did this, and there are many examples of soldiers saving individuals from execution. While the Japanese Army is a bit different. In China all replacement soldiers were made to bayonet a prisoner to death in front of his new unit. While new officers were made to cut off the head of a prisoner.

You have to distinguish what the German Army was comprised of during World War II. The Wehrmacht is the regular German army. It is composed of career soldiers and officers who followed strict military discipline and code of conduct. Their military upbringing and behaviour is in accordance with the military norms of other nations (Rommel, Guderian, Manstein, Heinrici were some of the famous generals belonging to this group). There was also the SS and Waffen SS, whose upbringing are purely based on their belief in the Nazi ideology. They are fanatical and unconditionally faithful to Adolf Hitler. The SS and Waffen SS were the main culprits in the atrocities committed by the German military in WW2 (Himmler, Heydrich, Goering, Model were some of the people in this group). It is to be noted that in the Nuremberg war crimes trials, those who were sentenced to hang were all Nazi's, SS, and Waffen SS. No Wehrmacht soldier or officer were found guilty of war crimes. This was because the Wehrmacht behaved and carried itself according to the international rules of warfare.

i believe druing ww2 america actualy put many japanese imigrants and japamericans in camps as well for fear of them being spies. this sounds terrible and i truly mourn pearl harbor but if it wernt for the japaniese bombing it up hitler would still be killing people he didnt like. so i would say the nazis were more cruel in ww2.however it takes a bigger bader country to kick a the nazis butts so in the end i guess we were all a cruel. plus no one wants to really face it but there is proof that even america helped fund the nazis and the japs and the japs funded the nazis.

what choses between right and wrong in a war can only be determined by the winner. example imagine what the world would be like if germany actually won?

the german soldiers were superior to japanese and italian troops. The SS troops especially were the cream of the crop of the Nazi military.

The "AVERAGE" German soldier was not all that dissimiliar to any other honorable soldier. He was serving his country, sleeping in the cold and taking (rather than killing) POWs.

The SS and SA, or rather elements of them, were the ones committing atrocities. Not all SS, some were merely highly disciplined and trained elements of the Army, such as the SS Panzer divisions. Others were the heavy hand of Hitler and rounded up and maintained the concentration camps.

The japanese were also serving their country, but were more likely to commit atrocities, such as killing POW's or torturing them. In comparison, POW's in Germany were treated much better.

Compared to the Japanese, no, but they where ruled under Adolf Hitler so I would say that they had orders to be cruel. Especially the ones who had to guard the concentration and POW camps.

There is nothing more cruel than war itself. So even the most innocent man out there regardless of whose side he was fighting on had to be cruel.
