I read that it was written on leather, palm leaves and others but not preserved. I also read the Quran didnt actually show up until 150 years after Mohammed died. I also read that the Quran is just a copy of the Old and New Testaments with some pagen practices thrown in. And that if Allah was the one true God why did Abraham not call Him by His name? And my final question I read that the crescent moon was actually the family crest of Mohammed and Allah was a moon God. I guess it would be great for anyone to answer but perhaps Muslims could answer these questions best. I have done some research and found these same answers. The only one I found to be different is that Muslims say that the Jews changed what Abraham really called God name wise. Im not trying to discredit Islam just trying to get a better look at it. Thank you all in advance.

Mohammed was illiterate and did not write the koran. And yes it is an amagamation of Jewish and Christian practices. When Mohammed set out to create his religion he wanted his followers to find aspects that they would be comfortable with and so meshed the different religions together and then threw in some war and the ability to kill anyone who disagreed for good measure.
Mohammed was looking for an army and religion was the best way to gather an army at that time in history.

Firstly the Quran was written down on leather etc as you've stated, and it was preserved. It was presereved as Muslims even today memorise the Quran off by heart from cover to cover word for word. But there was also the physical copy. Soon after the Prophet's (pbuh) death the third Caliph (so it wasn't anywhere like a hundred and fifty years) took the preserved copy and asked people who had memorised the Quran to compile the Quran with vowels to distribute it to certain places within the Islamic Empire. We still have these copies is Uzbekistan and Turkey.

No the Quran is not copied fro the Bible:

As you might know that Jews never right Gods name the will write G-d so how does anybody that YWH is Yahway or Jehovah etc. But as we know it simply mean "He is". That not being a name like Bob or Steve, Allah is not a name Allah simply means "The God". The Quran tells us:

He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him belong the Most beautiful names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. –(Quran 59:24)

As for the moon god theory this verse should be sufficient:

"And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Do not bow down (prostrate) to the sun nor to the moon, but only bow down (prostrate) to "Allah" Who created them, if you (really) worship Him." [Quran 41:37]

If Allah was the moon god wouldn't it make sense to tell us to prostrate to the moon?

Hope that helps, let me know if you want me to clarify any points.

"I was just reviewing a past question/answer on here. Is it true Mohammed did not really pen the Quran? "

Correct. Others did write down what he recited though.

"I read that it was written on leather, palm leaves and others but not preserved."

It was often written on whatever was found, including (I assume) those items. Muhammad recited them - others wrote them down.

"I also read the Quran didnt actually show up until 150 years after Mohammed died."

As I understand it (I'm not a Muslim and am trying to pull memory out of World Religion stuff I studied years ago), I think what was written was copied and circulated. But it is tradition that Abu Bakr compiled them. Again...my memory of this is vague, so my apologies if I am incorrect. I would google that name to read more about him. He was much earlier than 150 years after Muhammad. He lived when Muhammad lived.

"And that if Allah was the one true God why did Abraham not call Him by His name?"

Allah means "God" in Arabic. It's like asking why we call God "God." Or why Mexicans call God "Dios."

"And my final question I read that the crescent moon was actually the family crest of Mohammed and Allah was a moon God"

Allah's not considered a moon god in Islam. That idea is just from someone seeing the moon and trying to link something to it to discredit Islam. It's like saying the Christian God is the god of crucifiction or the Jewish God is the god of stars.

"Im not trying to discredit Islam just trying to get a better look at it. Thank you all in advance."

I hope I helped. I hope you get better and clearer answers, but wanted to try to point you in the right direction as best I could.

Yes, our beloved Muhammad (sallahu alayhi wasallam) did write the Quran.

The Qur’an says:

"Will they not then ponder on the Qur'an? If it had been from other than Allah they would have found therein much incongruity.' [An-Nisaa' 4: 82]

At the time the Qur’an was revealed, the Arabs recognised that the language of the Qur'an was unique and that it was distinctly different from the language normally used by the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.

The Arabs of that time, by the way, were known for their beautiful poetry and Muhammad was known to be an illiterate man!

The Qur’an clearly says that Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was unable to read and write, so if this wasn't true, certainly his community would have protested and rejected him. However, there are no reports of this. Certainly there were people who rejected Muhammad’s message, just like other Prophets were rejected, but none for this reason.

Allah knows best.

Well, from the show the history channel did about Mohammed.

It was an oral tradition for a long time, then after Mohammed died (not sure if the history channel gave a time after) His followers wrote down the teachings.

And being human, it is no doubt just as messed up as the christian human wrote bible. In that, it might have been inspired by a holy man (whether prophet/son of god), but his followers no doubt included some things and took some things out that they didn't agree with.

You say that you have "done some research" - I DON'T THINK SO. (moon god???? - what the hell???)

Read the Quran - english translation by Yusuf Alli - world famous.

Yes the quran was not penned by Mohammed. He was ill-literate yet very intelligent. There is a lot of Gods wisdom in that.

Read "There's no god but God" by Reza Arslan a reknown scholar. I'm reading that nowadays and it has helped answer alot of my questions. I'm a Muslim but I had questions and clarifcations of my own. Didn't want to go by whta the extremists teach. It's a great book to get historical facts and gain a little perspective on Islam.

It might help, too, to think of the Qur'an as a clarification of the scriptures that came before it. So yes, you find the Qur'an speaking of Biblical accounts, but the Qur'an clarifies these accounts for us.

May Allah bless you for your sincere effort to seek knowledge.
