I have a newfie that does it. I like to think she likes me petting her so she is returning the favor. If you pet her though and stop her paw gets more violent. So its more she wants me to do for her

It's a classic attention seeking behavior. If it bothers you, ignore it (and him) totally when he does it or stand up and leave and he'll soon learn that it doesn't get him the attention he wants. Once it is no longer rewarding, he won't do it anymore. If it doesn't bother you, or you want him to do it sometimes but only when asked, then you can take advantage of this natural behavior and put a name to it. When he puts his paw on you, say whatever you want to call it ("paw" or "touch" for example) and reward him with lots of attention and even a yummy treat. Eventually he will associate the word that you choose to use for this command with putting his paw on you and you can ask him to do it before he actually does it. Once he starts doing that, ONLY reward him for it if you've asked him to do it. If he does it without you asking for it, totally ignore him or stand up and leave. Poodles are usually brilliant, so if you are consistent it shouldn't take him long to learn that he can only put his paw on you if you ask for it.

I used to have a poodle and now i have different dog and it has nothing to do with being a poodle coz dogs do that. It is a certain way of communication, i'd say getting your attention

I don't know about standard poodles, but I do know a bit about dogs in general. He's asking for attention.

My poodles all do that. He is being affectionate and asking for some affection back. As you will know, poodles are particularly affectionate dogs who need lots of company and attention. Please give him a fuss back. Ignoring a poodle is like punishing it.

He is claiming ownership of you. Putting a paw on you or leaning up against you are ways for him to tell you and others he is in charge.

Typically it's just his way of stating that he wants some attention, usually in the form of petting.

I believe that all dogs & cats do that. Mine do anyway. Its their way of asking for your attention, or for you to pet them. Its the same as holding another persons hand.

Your dog is trying to tell you something. My mother's dog does that to me and she trys to tell me that she wants a doggie cookie. It's their way of communicating to you.
