I came home from work yesterday and my 9 year old manx was dead. He looks like he died in his sleep. He was just laying peacefully at the foot of the couch. Do you think he suffered? Do you think he had a heart attack?

he probably died peacefully in his sleep. if you really want to know you can take him to the vet and have them do a necropsy which is an autopsy for animals. I'm sure he didn't suffer.

I'm sorry for your loss.

It sounds like it was something sudden if he was laying on the couch still. If you find a cat in a way that it looks like he was sleeping when it happened then he normally was. It could have been a heart attack or a stroke. Normally if the animal is in pain it wil run off and try and hide.

I would bet he was asleep when it happened and I'm sure was and still is glad to have had an ower who cared so much about him. Clearly you took good care of him and cared enough to be worried about his pain. I'm sorry for you haveing lost him.

I'm very sorry to hear that but at 9 years he has lived a pretty good life and that is to be expected, if he went in his sleep he did not suffer.
When you are ready get an other to fill the void.
I have had this happen to a few of mine and it is not easy to deal with but by getting another you can get over it easier.
I wish you all the best.

He probably was old, 9 years is a long time. I would think he went peacefully and he's body gave out. I have had 3 adult cats die in my lifetime and they all went peacefully. I know it's tough and having to come home to the death of a loved one is really hard. I always believe they go to heaven. Try not to over-analyzed it too much and just grieve that he is gone. It'll be okay.

God Bless!

I'm very sorry to hear that. I can sympathize with you.

I get more broken up about animals dying than people.

Dying in his sleep is probably the best way to go, and we all have to go at some point. Take comfort that your cat had a great life with you and he's now in a better place.

And go out and get another cat. The best thing we can do for animals is to provide them with a wonderful home. Make another cat the luckiest cat in the world.

I'm so very sorry you lost your beloved fur friend.

I'm sure your cat never suffered. Just try and focus on him being a young kitten again running and playing with all the other kitties at the Rainbow Bridge. I know this thought always helps me when I have a loss.

God bless you both.

I'm not a vet but perhaps he simply died in his sleep. I lost one of my cats two years ago (she was 16) and my surviving cat is 18. I know how it feels and I wish you well. Non pet folks don't realize that this is like losing a family member for some of us. I do know that if your cat had been hurting and sick where would have been signs such as seeking solitude more than usual and not eating. Sounds like this was very quick.

Hang in there.
Peace

Usually if the death was on the violent side such as a stroke, to where the animal convulses to death. The spine usually constricts backwards, leaving the animal in a backward arched position.

You said that your cat looked like it was just sleeping so it most likely went to sleep and never woke up.

I hope he didn't suffer. If you didn't see any signs beforehand that he was having problems, then it was most likely quick.

I cried for hours when my cat died. She was suffering and I was too selfish to have the vet put her out of it, wanting to believe she would get better. I wish I would have let her go peacefully.

ah thats so sad, how horrible for you. my cat happened to die on the weekend my parents went away, he was really old anyway but i still remember going into the conservatory with a saucer of milk and he was, well, dead. im sure he didnt suffer in the slightest, if he hadnt shown signs of being ill then then its probably just one of those thing. have a nice send off for him x
