I recently dyed my hair dark brown but it turned out black. Once it starts fading will it fade to the brownish color on the box?

OK, a couple of people have told you this cannot be done and others have said it can. Well, it can - with a professional colour stripper!!! However you need to be aware that your hair will not be in good condition afterwards (it will feel dry and certainly matted when its wet). You will need some very good conditioner and I would recommend you get a daily restructuring conditioner which is left in your hair. Your hair will NOT go back to strawberry blonde from black! It will go orange/yellow at best. However the good thing is, is that you can colour over immediately - no waiting time. Can I suggest that you do not use a permanent colour. Try using temporary colour as this will fade out gradually. Your hairdresser could use a Quasi/Demi colour which would last longer than a temporary but will give you an obvious root growth. These options will also help to put some condition back into your hair. Not sure how long your hair is but getting it cut shorter will definitely help you. If you are prepared to get it cut really short then don't bother with stripping. Tie or clip it up to hide some of the regrowth and try waiting for another 6-8 weeks then go get it cut. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you go to a good hairdresser. Ask around, as recommendations are the best source. Finally, good luck with this and PLEASE don't dye your hair black again - it's NEVER worth the bother.

Yes, the colors there. The reason it turned black just means that your hair is porous (which means it was lacking protein, almost like holes). There are treatments you can buy, for the next time. Prior to coloring your hair to help with this problem (will fill the holes). If your hair turned black from base to ends, you can use a clarifying shampoo to help it fade. But, if just the ends you'll have to wait it out the clarifying shampoo would fade the color as a whole. If you don't have white hair try a semi-permanate hair color next time. Permanate hair color is designed for white hair or lightening virgin hair (hair that has not been previously colored). So if your going darker and don’t have white hair it’s the best choice. Make sure to follow manufactures time guide lines.

No, it will not turn back to the color on the box. Black will eventually fade to a lighter shade of black, but until your hair grows out, you're pretty much stuck with it. Whatever you do, DONT try to dye it to a different color. Once it gets long enough to cut, find a different hairstyle for the time being and get it trimmed or cut.

Black doesn't usually fade. It only loses its shine and lustor. They were right above in the fact that you never get the color on the box. Box color is formulated for all hair types, well, there is really no such thing, my hair is different than yours and so on and so on. The black will stay black, but will get a bit mousy and drab. Oops!!

Should think so colour generally does fade a bit after washing alot etc - Results in hair colours are varied because of a number of things - length the colour is left on - condition of the hair - weither it previously coloured etc....
But i should think you will be ok it will fade soon.

I prefer hair which is shoulder length or longer, And since that men who like women are more often then not straight, they like long hair because it looks more feminine, as most men have short hair.

No, you left it on too long One thing everyone doesn't get is to buy a color that is at least 2 shades lighter than yours.
