balance the following in their heads:

the need to be humble like Jesus vs the knowing that they're better than everyone else because they follow Jesus

A very good friend of mine, who by the way is a non denominational Christian, pulled the 'Im saved by the blood atonement of Christ, while you're still dabbling in good-bad deeds' card.

Thus, I conclude that most feel that theyre saved and are better off than everyone else.

Personally, I do not think that I am better than anyone else because I follow Jesus.

There are reasons people make the decisions they do such as family, but there is also gaining information from other sources, and deciding what to do based upon that information.

I am thankful to Jehovah's Witnesses who visited me and helped me to learn what the Bible really teaches, and to see the need to be a follower of Jesus Christ, Jehovah's Son. Because I choose to follow him, however, does not make me better than anyone else.

By the way, our District Conventions this year are called "Follow the Christ!" You can read about that at the first link below; the second link is to locations in the US:

Following Jesus doesn't make us better. It makes us entirely differnet from everyone else. Almost a different human. We still sin, but we are forgiven and go to try and sin no more (we fail). And to be humble like Jesus is entirely impossible. The God of all Creation came down to be born in a stable. I could never do that. Sorry about your disease, we'll find a cure for atheism one day.

We Christians emphasize the need to be humble like Jesus. We don't feel better than everyone else, but we are happy because of our hope of salvation.

No see, we know we are sinners, and we all fall short.
We're humble enough to know that we need a savior.
We don't think we are better than anyone else. We know
that we are not. That is why we follow Jesus, because
he saved our wretched souls and we are grateful. We
want everyone to be saved and everyone to follow because
we know that not one of us is good on our own and not one of us is better than the other, it is so the opposite of what you are eluding to. We are not here to damn people to hell we are here to talk about salvation, the good news, how easy it is and how happy we are knowing it.

Better than everyone else? I think that is your inferiority complex kicking in. Before I became a Christian, I WAS NOT one, understand? It is not because I feel all superior, but I used to walk in those shoes, and feel that I might have been 'enlightened' and want to share that with people of the crowd that I used to be in.
"Hey! Do you want to go out and get stoned tonight?"
"No thanks, I don't do that anymore. I became a Christian, do you want to go to church with me?"
"Whats wrong with you? Are you in some kind of cult? Don't judge me!"
Do you see what I mean?
Since when was trying to HELP someone acting 'holier than thou?'

Oh my goodness, where did we ever say we were better than anyone?? We are only forgiven and that means that we have God's grace. But that is a gift, certainly not exclusive but open and free to anyone. If anything, there are many of us who were actually the worst. We simply saw the error of our ways.
No, not better than anyone, just forgiven. Thank God.

I think the latter needs to be dropped from that equation. Just be humble. No balancing act required.

If they followed Jesus, they would be washing the feet of other believers. They would have mercy on the unbelievers and do all that they could to snatch them from the fires of hell.
