If you believe in the god your parents believed in, how can you claim it's the true and only god?
Just imagine, if you had been brought up in a different cultural environment, you would believe in a different god and think it's the only true one. How does that make your specific god concept valid?

Nope I am a completely different faith then my parents. I do know that there is only one G-d but I do not claim sole access to him nor do I claim to hold the only path to him.

Actually, I was brought up in the church and left for a long time when I became a man. I traversed the secular world looking for something meaningful and found it lacking in my travels.

My reading inspired my faith slowly over time. Delving into aspects of idioms, translations, transliterations, and figures of speech in the Bible enabled me to correlate what I was learning of the physical world to what I knew in the scriptures.

Going beyond a strictly literal interpretation of what I read to understand the meaning of the phraseology in the original translations is what did it for me.

The Bible says that a person brought up in The Word will return to it -- and that is pretty much what happened.

So I didn't inherit God; my religion engulfed me at some point in time long after the age of accountability.

How can I not believe in something which is so relevant and evident in my life as the one true God, YHVH -- the God of Abraham, Isacc, Moses, and David -- whose name is "I Am" and not "I Was".

if your parents spanked you and you felt it was an acceptable form if discipline, does that make your belief any more correct or incorrect? Absolutely not if it is what you have found to be the best solution.

If your trying to argue cultural issues, of course your going to think that Allah is the true God, or Zeus is the supreme, or nothing is out there if that is what your parents believe. But that changes as you age. You begin to research for yourself and make your own determinations as to what is true and false, ultimately arriving at what you choose to believe. If if falls in alignment with what your parents believe, so be it. If not, prepare to be ex-communicated.

Some do, but I've stepped away from that. It's only natural though to believe that what your parents believe is true.

I didn't inherit Him....He inherited me....

And called me to a holy calling.......Praise God.

And I have been sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise until the Day of redemption (Ephesians 1:13-14)

I did. But when I grew up, I got the freedom to reason and decide for myself to follow Jesus Christ. I am convinced he is the only way to the Father.
