I started classes in March and recieved a partial-Pell Grant at that time. When will my eligibility for the next Pell Grant come into effect? Do pell grants work off of Academic-terms (i.e. cover classes during July 1- June 30, then renew) or are they covered by credit-hours? My award letter stated that for my grant I "needed to complete" 1-12 hours, and on July 9th I will have 12 credit hours completed... I think I'm just confused about the entire process. Any help would be appreciated as I've found getting my Financial dept on the phone takes an act of congress and a box of Scooby-Snacks ;)

they go by the school year, say fall and spring, 2006/2007
then the year will start again, fall 2007/spring2008
if you wish to attend summer session, you apply separately for that
the hours do not really count, meaning you dont have to reach a certain amount before the next year, that is just telling you the minimum and maximum they will cover, for that year, you can find out alot of information, online, either at the Pell Grant site or the basic student financial aid site,

They rate by semesters and depending on what you put on your application will depend on what you are mandated to have in college hours. Such as if you stated that you were taking full time which is 12 hours then you are only allowed to drop one class before being placed on probation. they do have a minimum of 6 hours to be completed with an approved grade usually a C. The semesters are rewarded every semester for that semester. You can apply for the whole year that covers all the semesters but it appears you applied for Spring only and was late ding it so they did partical.
You will need to apply for summer aid through your FA office and for next year Fall 07/Spring08 you only have until June 30, 2007 to complete the FAFSA application if you want to not have this happen to you again.

yes you are eigible for another pell grant. you can qualify for this need based grant every year. no where in this process will it ask you for previous academic info. this is need based. regardless what happened before, you will get more pell if you still meet requirements. you can attend the same school if you want to. a grant is a gift- does not ever have to be pais back. you dont owe anyone anything if you drop.
