I think both are possible, but I think your question is more reasonably worded the other way around: Can there be peace if there is freedom? And for that, you need to define "peace." If you mean a completely peaceful life, with no disagreements or fist fights, then no, I don't think that is possible and still be free. People will get angry, whether drunk or not, and get belligerent. Some do it out of sheer boredom.

But if you mean peace in the sense of no wars, no organized killings by government against government, I think that is possible. If we had vigorous worldwide trade, and every time you started rattling your saber, your trading partners -- suppliers and customers both -- threatened to cut off all economic relations, I think sooner or later a system of world-court type peaceful solutions to problems would result. Much of this is in place already, but some presidents (not mentioning any names) are willing to go against their own peoples' interests for thoroughly nasty reasons. Such people would have to be routinely voted out, or never voted in to begin with, in a truly peaceful world. And of course, a purely defensive military would have little to do, not cost very much, and basically just provide a training ground for the young.

Peace on earth will only come when we can truly trust one another.
Freedom on the other hand is directly under every individual's personal control and can be gained at any time. But that takes constant alertness and also a constant willingness to fight back against those elements that try to enslave.
You have to agree to be a slave to really become one.

The more you suppress free will the closer you get to total slavery. This is the main cause of war. Look at history....
in all wars, revolts, revolutions and unrest you will find attempts to enslave, suppress or wipeout a section of humanity for the supremacy of another, regardless of the justification, religious, ethnic or economic.

End of free will = peace only if no more human beings. Free will, and a need for freedom, is intrinsic to what IS human.

Peace on the surface is one thing, but never will everyone get along. The only way world piece could exist is if every one was striving for the same goal, the same way. Any time there are diversities there is conflict.

First there must BE freedom. THEN there can be peace.

Freedom of thought, freedom of religion or non-religion, freedom from persecution and most of all freedom from the oppression of those who would impose their will and beliefs upon others.

Free will is essential to freedom, the only caveat being that nothing in the exercise of your free will can harm another. (Free will itself is not really "free," but that is another discussion.)

I doubt it because the people who are in power like to have control. If people were totally free to do whatever they wanted, it would lead to a bad world and there would no longer be any peace.

no i still don't think we would have complete freedom becuase the government would still want to keep control on people. there is always a chance things could get a little crazy but if it was garunteed that everyone would be in control then yes i think we'd have freedom.

I think freedom should be taken responsibly. Abusing others and doing your own thing is NOT freedom. This aspect should be considered when you state freedom.

Basically, Fascism keeps internal unrest in heavy check.

Saddam proved it, the USSR proved it with Yugoslavia, Mussillini proved it.

Repression is not a very good solution.
