If you re-install windows over top the current version of Windows then you will lose everything you had saved to it.

I don't know what you mean by "generator" however. What are you trying to generate?

It all depends
Older windows 98 now i just overwrites it
Windows XP is a lot more tricky.
If it is an upgrade it seems to copy it somewhere to a whole new area
Other times it overwrites your documents and desktop
That is the windows directory
Programs and data in the programs are intact but you may have to reinstall programs as it may be a fresh copy of windows and it does not know the programs are there
There is a way to do - it is a confusing when installing xp - there is a confusimg series of steps where you ignore something
If you want to save your desktop and your documents copy over to external hard drive or a dvd ( if not too big) or a usb drive the area in my documents for the user
Again confusing in xp you have to figure out which user by hunting in them
Windows 98 was less confusing - like a manuals car

You will lose all data if you choose to do a clean install however you can overwrite your current copy of windows (not recommended). By generator I'm assuming you mean key generator to get a key, they're out there but good luck finding a real one that doesn't have a virus.

If you re-install Windows after doing a complete format you will lost everything.
If you re-install Windows as a 'repair' install, you will most likely lose your programs, but not your 'My Documents'.

What do you mean by 'generator'?

If you do not format but re-install, then you will not loose your data, but the program you have installed on your Desktop/Laptop will be gone.

so if you have installer CDs of your softwares then you can re-install windows and then all of your software, you will not loose your data until, you format.

I hope this helps.

Yes, you will lose all your data if it is on the same partition as Windows.

Back up (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) all personal data and do a Windows "Clean Install", get more info at (www.theeldergeek.com).

If you reinstall Windows you can lose all your data only if you format the hard drive. (you'll be offered with this option before reinstall)

What generator are you talking about? Be more specific.
