what months do shad start to school up and get thick?

Here in Indiana we have had many large schools already and in july they will be so big they almost rock your boat!

During the months after shad spawn they will start gathering into large schools. Shad spawn in the spring or early summer.

On Long Island, in May and June. Yet the shad fishing is inconsistent here. Some years there are plenty, some years some, other years none. When they do show up in the Long Island waters, the hot bite starts in May and will end all the way to November.
