How old is your daughter? If she is a minor (which I'm assuming she is) then she should've told you what was going on with her friend, and YOU should've been the one to call Child Services. It may have been her business, but it was not hers to handle. There seems to be nothing you can do at this point except avoid this woman, and write letters to the people she was spreading rumours about you to (this doesn't constitute as harassment) telling them what you believe is the truth.
If this woman starts calling you all the time with threats, or sending you hate mail (w/death threat or not), etc, then yes, that is harassment. In this case, you need to document all you can for the police and have a restraining order placed upon her. She can be arrested if she violates this in any way.

First I would have to ask how they found out that she is the one who called. They have to keep that information confidential. Second, every time he does this you need to call the worker assigned to the case and tell them what she is doing. If there is no way for them to discredit her then they can say all they want and people ill see the truth about it all. Children services is very used to that and they know when someone is lying about things just to try to discredit someone. Get proof of everything and show that they are just rumors. That is a chance someone takes when they do call children services on someone. If the worker told them who made the complaint then you need to file a grievance with the department and that worker will be penalized. As far as the rumors go just ignore them the best that you can. Even though this is defamation of character that is a very hard case to win and usually not worth the trouble.

Slander. Defamation of character. Both civil laws governing this. But, if I were you, I'd call the County's Social Services Director and file a complaint every time she does anything untoward. If she does criminal harassing, I'd call the cops and let her explain to them why she's not breaking the law. You could also call the local legal services office--as this is civil right now-they can give free advice if you qualify financially. I would go to the newspapers if no one steps in to protect you and your daughter, and tell your side of the story!
good luck.

There is nothing criminal in the act of spreading rumours so don't call the police as this is NOT harassment in the criminal sense. Calling your house, sending you letters following you around would be harassment.
Telling lies about someone in order to damage their reputation is slander and is a civil court matter. A lawyer that specializes in civil law could help.

How do they know she called? It is anonymous! They shouldnt have been told who called. You need to contact the police. Put a restraining order against those parents.
