My only guess would be that 'hindu' is supposed to sound like 'hen do' as in what does a hen do.. it lays eggs.
Perhaps I have missed the joke also :-)

it is actually a mispronouncement of the real question "What is a hen do?" or better yet, "what does a hen do?" Answer: it lays eggs! Makes sense right! now you can laugh!. :)

You have to say it faster and changed the inflection in Hindu, to Hendu. Now say "What'sa Hendu!?" It makes eggs.
