My son has quite a lot of things already, the latest games console, pc, bike, ds etc.

I am stumped as to what to get him and he can only come up with things that i dont want him to have yet like a mobile phone.
I thought of heelys but i think he would get bored of them. I have ideas for little presents but not his main present please help!
I dont want to get him any more game machines or games for the machines he already has.
I want to spend no more than £100 on his main present. Hes not one for remote control cars or "toys" like action figures.

And hes an intelligent 8

Serena- My son is not spoilt. He does have a lot of stuff sure- but why shouldnt he have? All of his friends have games consoles and bikes, your telling me a child shouldnt have things to play with? I hate it when people answer such a simple question with an attitude like that.. For christmas he got his games console, and there is nothing wrong with that. For his birthday and christmas he always gets a main present and several small presents, as did i when i was small.

He is very artistic, and has all sorts of arts and crafts which he does enjoy, i was thinking of getting him a few of those bits for the smaller presents. He also has a ton of lego which he doesnt really play with.

How about a day out to a theme park or football match if he supports a team. Or a day out to a seaside location. Even a special picnic.

Alternatively, let him decide where he would like to go for a day out - invite some of his friends along as well or make it just a family occasion.

I'm sorry but I agree with the other person. Why does he have all that at 8? My kids are 8 and they have a bike and as a combined christmas and birthday present they got a PS@ a few months ago. 8 years olds do not need there own pc and if he has a games console why does he need a ds? You gave him too much too quick. Who cares if that is what his friends have. This done mean he has to have them. But in answer too your question
A basketball ring
scooter
books
clothes
my son for his 8th birthday got a pirate ship he had to put together it was cardboard and there were plans. It can be made into many different ships. It came from a store called Socrates(I'm Aussie) there may be something like it where you are. I have given you a link so you can see what type of store it is and whether you have anything like it near you.
educational games for his PC
stuff from his favourite sports team...lunch box, drink bottle, ball scarf etc.

hope this helped

do you live in a city?
maybe he'd like to learn how to ride a horse ... if you have time to take him to riding lessons, it might be interesting ... I'm always much for -unforgettable experience- than material things ... invest in something that will make his 8th birthday unforgettable ... I know I remember my childhood in sequences and based on certain experiences (example: Olympic games in Sarajevo were the the same year when I started going to school, and I remember that new year's perfectly, because I was ill, and my parent organise for Santa to come to our home to give me a present) ... I guess you want him to be a happy kid and to have wonderful childhood memories. Think in that direction, not only about "what he needs", because I believe that best presents are the ones we'd never expect, something very creative and something we couldn't think of ourselves.

OK .. i just thought of an other idea. How about giving him the money and a nice picture of some animal that needs shelter. There are many organisations that help animals that need care (old racing horses, some endangered species ... ) He could be donating every month for food for his new pet, and if you find some of those organisations in vicinity, maybe you should tell him to save a bit of that money, so you can have a weekend trip with him to visit his pet (but after a few months, after he already develops a bond with his pet, because the shelter house will be sending him reports about how his pet is doing, "thank you" notes, pictures and so on).
He will enjoy unwrapping some little gift, all kids love that, and his birthday shouldn't go without it, but the next day, this will occupy his mind, and influence his thinking and growing much more deeply.

I'm sure you'll think of something better than I did. I'm only trying to help you think out of "I'll go to a shop and by something" box.

Have fun!

Don't feel bad about him having all that stuff! My son will be 8 in August and I have the same problem with gift ideas. My son has the gamecube, WII, gameboy, and the DS. He also has his own computer. Electronics are just his thing and I don't see anything wrong with that. I plan to get him some games. That is all I have came up with so far. Maybe games would be the way to go for you too. Good luck to ya!

A Fishing Rod?
My 8 year old boy got one from his uncle for his birthday last year. He was dead impressed. His uncle sat down and thought 'what would i have loved as a young fella?'.

A set of Golf Clubs?
You can get some desent kids golf clubs in argos etc. Also get the air balls as this will mean that he can practice in the garden.

The best thing about either of these presents is that they make you take time out and spend it with your chrildren. We found that our kids , like yours, had all the latest games consoles etc but what made them happiest was actually spending proper time with us. My boy loves nothing more than packing up his clubs and heading to the driving range with his dad.

an animal , like a dog from the shelter it will be the best gift you ever get him , he will learn about love and responsibility and it will become his best friend and it will challenge him intellectually and will become the one thing he will love the most id be willing to bet anything he would trade in all his stuff for his pet lol.

pets from shelters are less than £100 but there is food bills etc which aren't alot and you could take him along to choose his pet which would be fun!

AND YOUR SON IS NOT SPOILT !!

a mobile is a good idea, my son is 7 and has one, dont spend alot of money on it though. if you get that as his main present and give him some money in a card then you can say that you will take him out wherever he wants to go and he can choose.

does he like cars? my boyf is taking our son to goodwood festival of speed in a couple of weeks

or a climbing frame or trampoline for the garden.

i know you said he doesnt like action figures but my son has just got some ben10 toys and he loves them.
