I don't know him very well, but I didn't want anything to happen and have that guilt. I'm just worried I came across as pious or judgmental or something. I just told him we (my friends) and I were headed the same direction, and if he wanted to hitch a ride he was more than welcome. Does that sound ok? I just feel kind of bad cause I don't know him that well. Thanks.

You may have saved his life. Think about that.

We have slogans in advertisements here that go, "Friends don't let friends drive drunk." Nobody who has just been drinking is fine to drive. Even though you didn't know him very well ... that guy was extremely lucky YOU were his friend that night.

Good for you.

No, that does not sound judgemental at all, it sounds like the kind of responsible and caring thing one human being does for another.

And you are so right, if you did not at least offer him a ride and something happened, you would feel rotten.

Who wants the last thing we can say about a person to be "Well, I could have done something to help but didn't"?

Well done!! :-)

I think it was a very nice thing to do, and responsible too. Really it's not judgmental to offer someone who's had too much to drink a ride home, it's pretty much accepted as a good idea, as it should be!

I don't think it's judgemental or pious to care about someone's safety and to offer them a ride home if they've been drinking.

No, of course not. You may have saved his life or the life of someone that he could have end up hitting if he tried to drive home yourself. Don't worry about it. You did a great thing.

I think that was fine - you could have very well saved his life. It was good that you were with a group of people too - I don't think I could have brought some guy I don't know well home alone in my car. I would have called him a cab in that case.

I think you did the right thing. It's always a good thing to give someone a ride home that needs it.

Friends don't let their friends drive drunk.

Just because you are giving somebody a ride does not mean that you are having sex with him.

If it was safe I'd offer a complete stranger a ride.
