because they are a carry over from the 60's and 70's, when people ate pink food, devilled eggs, pigs in blankets and any other "cheezy" thang they could get their hands on. back then it was clever and cool, now it's just crass. cheeeeeezy!

Eeeh, shaping cheese into balls? Kinda lame-o. Cubes or slices are just as delicious and not nearly so dorky.
