Holy Cow, I think about that too!!! I'm totally a vegetarian, and I can't believe how many carnivores are out there...Personally, meat makes me sick!! So to answer your question---I already do eat 7 meat-less meals each week!

Because they like the way it tastes, even though it is high in saturated fats and cholesterol. I think in moderation it is ok. I eat meat once a week, and could totally go meatless, but I think there are people who LOVE meat and need to it it daily. Its just a matter of preference.

There is no comparison between a "delicious meatless meal" and a 2 inch porterhouse grilled medium rare. Sorry.

Going meatless for me would be like a penance.

Also, the way in which your question is worded assumes we eat meat because there is not a viable alternative. That is certainly not the case. I eat meat because I like it. I do not fault you because you chose not to eat meat, please do not fault me because I do.

Note: a 2" porterhouse would last me a couple of days. I may be an omnivore (not a carnivore, you imbeciles; look it up and use the language correctly!) but I'm not a pig.

You gave the answer in your question.

Saying there are "delicious meatless options" is an opinion not a fact. I enjoy all sorts of food, but id be lying if i said i didnt enjoy meat. I dont deny that some enjoy less than others, just as i dont deny that some people actually enjoy country music.

If you are asking this under the guise that you beleive that humans are not omnivores, but herbivores, well ive read every possible incarnation of that arguement, and it always ends up lacking. We posses canines, and our eyes are set in the front of our heads, we are predators. Yes thats just a genetic arguement, and some may say that we can rise above our past. But thats a value judgement, and thats assuming that to become herbivores or vegetarians would aid us in said rising above our baser instincts. Theres no reason to neccesarily think that. You may argue that the facilities that animlas for slaughter are kept in are unsanitary or in whatever way unpleasant. But that really has nothing to do with your arguement. If those facilities were pristine, would it make us any less or more omnivorous?
I have eaten 7 meatless meals in a week. But that was by chance, because its what i felt like at the time. My kids wouldnt go for it. My ability to have personal choice as to what i eat is as important to me as it is to you.

Heres a quesiton for you then, are you a vegetarian or a raw vegan? Arent plants alive as well? Do you eat bread, what about the yeast used to rise the bread, it is quite literally alive when its baked. And please, dont get me started on tofurkey...if you wont eat turkey, why the heck would you want to imitate it?

Lastly, do you drink milk, or do you beleive thats wrong as well, and if so why? The cow isnt harmed by our releiving it of its milk, on the contrary theyre teats become swollen and problematic if they arent milked. If you say that you only drink soy milk, then please let me quote Lewis Black: "There is NO SUCH THING AS SOY MILK. ITS SOY JUICE. BUT WHEN I SAY SOY JUICE, I GAG A LITTLE. HOW DO I KNOW THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SOY MILK, BECAUSE THERES NO SOY TEAT FOR IT TO COME OUT OF"
Why do vegetarians feel the need to lie, and emulate that which so often ridicule.

Meat contains protein and man is a natural meat eater right from the days when the first man walked on two legs. Right up until the middle of the 20th Century, a person who insisted on avoiding eating meat would have been considered eccentric. If all meat eating stopped, the world would become overrun with animals that would otherwise have been slaughtered on reaching maturity and there would be far reaching effects on the world's economy as those employed in the raising of animals and the preparation of meat for human consumption were forced out of work.

Americans eat excessive amounts of meat out of habit. It is how they're brought up. From a young age, chicken soup is fed to them when you're sick in bed. Their family shares a turkey for thanksgiving. They hold a sentimental value for it. They learn from a young age that protein is vital for growth and dairy for strong bones -- taught in the school curriculum (which is incidentally funded by the meat and dairy associations)

As a result, it is hammered into their heads that meat is a health food. So they eat as much as they can, for fear of becoming "protein deficient". They're proud of themselves and their affluence and their culture... 3rd world countries certainly can't afford to eat this much meat, it would be wrong not to appreciate what the farmers are so kindly providing, right?

Vegetarian options are increasing all the time, making them more accessible for everyone. I think that some omnivorous people will reject this though, as people don't like trying what is unfamiliar to them, and don't like their habits being challenged -- to the point where they'd rather stay in the dark about how their food got to their plate!

I used to be a vegetarian and I agree that there are many scrummy vege meals available. However, I was swayed by a particularly juicy piece of steak which made my mouth water just sitting across the table from it. Meat is so tasty and there is no such thing as too much meat, in my humble opinion. I could quite happily eat meat every meal every day. My favourite is roast lamb with mint gravy. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm :o)

~Why don't other countries eat more meats? You aren't going to turn me into a vegetarian and I'm not going to make you want to be healthy.
I eat meat in moderation. No, I don't want seven meatless meals a week. I don't know why you people think we all eat at McDonald's everyday, we don't.~

The bodies of modern people need meat in order for their DNA to replicate properly. Vegetarians usually have health and psychological problems. Beef is an important source of vitamin B-12.

One however doesn't need meat every day and yes there are lots of tasty vegetarian dishes.
