I would like to know why some morons think the world is only 6000 years old when science has shown that its millions if not billions of years OLDER.

how does this make sense?

It is not the earth that is only 6,000 year old. It is MAN on the earth.
the earth itself IS billions of years old. And animal life has been on the earth for a very long time.
and we have the dinosaur bones to prove it.
Only MAN has a short history on the earth.
Genesis chapter five...the long lives of the patriarchs, tied in the the geneology of Jesus..Matthew ch. 1 and Luke ch. 3.

They don't all believe in a young earth. The people who believe the world is actually 6000 years old do not represent all (or even a large minority) of Christians.

Besides, the Bible says that for God, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like a day.

A simplistic mindset that looks for simple answers. A lack of imagination that results in an inability to read any way but literally. An unwillingness to delve into the culture of the period when the stories were written or explore the meaning of metaphors.

Combined with an intensely self-rightious attitude and total conviction that anyone who does not share their myopic perspective is "lukewarm" or even a "satanic persecutor".

To cap it all off, they have built-in excuses for not listening to knowledgable people who can correct them: The oft-repeated warnings of how they will be persecuted convinces them that anything they hear that is in conflict with what they believe is some kind of attack on their faith: And they dearly love to be martyrs to their faith!

Well the earth was made in 6 days, but days in hebrew means length of time. Not actual days. Remember time means nothing to God. But to answer your question, because it says the earth is 6,000 years old, but 6000 years to God=nothing, TIME MEANS NOTHING TO HIM. Some people take the bible literally, which you can, even if you believe in science. No need to call them morons, i know a lot of very good christian people who believe that, and they are not stupid. Again, they probably know more then you.

As a Christian I have not ever made this claim, and I appreciate you using the word "some" in your question.
Thank you for that.

I have my faith but then I also have fact.

I have some fossils that have been carbon dated to 2.5 Million years old and here I am - still a Christian because of my faith.

There are multiple pieces of evidence that point to a young earth, but I won't take time to explain that here.

God is all-powerful. When He created everything, He didn't create things like they had just begun. He made Adam and Eve adults from the start. They had an apparent age. God probably created the earth with an apparent age too, even though it hadn't actually been around as long as it seemed.

Actually, a minority of Christians believe in a young earth. But that minority is the most vocal. They are all over Yahoo! Answers.

And to answer your second question, if someone is willing to believe in a magic all-powerful Bering that lives eternally in space-heaven, young earth is just a small step away.

It doesn't matter either old or young the earth is. The most important thing is our lives is not going more than 120 years, so we had to spend it wisely.

Please read this link below. I'll show you that not all share such restricted views and that such in fact are unsupported by the Bible itself.

You can skip the first two paragraphs, but there are three pages to this:
