Many people who go to church, including many vicars, ministers and pastors, are not Christians and you cannot look to them as examples of spiritual maturity. If you want to read about becoming a disciple and not just stick at being a believer then I suggest you look at the following:
Steps to Freedom in Christ - available on Amazon and quite cheap. Gives you a good idea about what discipleship is about. If you are serious about this and don't mind being one of the few then you could get Truth and Freedom - an 18 part series from Ellel Ministries - costs a bit. They will tell you a lot about why churches have sick and suffering Christians in abundance and what can be done about it.

The church no doubt SHOULD be a mess. It is usually full of people the rest of the world threw away, people with all kinds of problems. What do you do with someone who was gang-raped in prison, then they let him go because he was innocent? Someone who had a sex-change operation, their life still is a mess, and they turn to Christ?
The people I have seen in the church are from all walks.
you have some who just like to 'play church', others for the prestige, others who want to do a work for Christ, and many who have no one else to turn to.
Look at the crowd Jesus hung around. The pharisees accused him of hanging out with all kinds of sinners.
The church is a hospital for sinners, not a hotel for saints.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST was a suffering servant. As all churches are imperfect thus, the members of your church are given the honor and glory to partake of that suffering servant. On one hand, when THE LORD JESUS CHRIST ascended to heaven, HE promised to send the HOLY SPIRIT to Earth. Meanhwhile,The LORD JESUS CHRIST in person is now in heaven. HE was seen in a vision by Saint Stephen standing at the right hand of GOD; and also The Prophet Mohammad when he was brought to heaven by archangel Gabriel saw THE LORD JESUS CHRIST standing at the right hand of GOD. The HOLY SPIRIT is composed of THE EMMANUEL- THE LORD GOD IN THE SPIRIT; the THE SEVEN SPIRITS before the throne of THE LORD GOD; then the SPIRITUAL COMMUNION of the Prophets and the Saints amidst and around the throne and in the spirit are the angels around the throne of THE LORD GOD. And the image of this HOLY SPIRIT is a virgn woman none other than the Virgin Mary. Thus, THE LORD GOD sends anyone of the members of the HOLY SPIRIT to earth such as an angel of light like the light that appeared to St Paul in the road to Damascus but when the angel of light spoke HE spoke saying I AM JESUS whom you are persecuting. Thus, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST in the spirit is THE HOLY SPIRIT. On one hand, Christianity is the belief on the GODHOOD of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST and the Savior of mankind. In the soon coming Kingdom of heaven HE will rule the Earth and the whole universe as THE KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS. But HE will rule with HIS servants the prophets and saints with righteuosness, justice and lovingkindness over all the earth (the whole universe).THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD.

Sometimes we reap the consequences of our sinful decisions
Sometimes we reap the consequences of others' sinful decisions
Sometimes the devil heightens both or comes with his own attacks
Sometimes God brings hardship to us for His glory and our good
In a post-Genesis chapter three world we have trials and tribulations from one source or another...but be of good cheer, Jesus has over come the post-Genesis chapter three world.
