Geographical location, without a doubt. This may be one of the most damning aspects to any "truth" behind religion, that supposedly humans search out with their hearts, but overwhelmingly find the faith of their culture. It doesn't add up.

Truth has nothing to do with geography. Religion may spread more pervasively within a geographic region, but this does not dictate *truth*. People are naturally drawn to the religion or belief system whereby they can advance (given a choice). Once they have extracted all value from the system, they begin to yearn for more, and move foward. If a choice is not available, geography rules, but if individuals are given a choice, the truth (of the faith) will always prevail.

The biggest determinant of faith is who you were raised by. Raised Catholic? You're probably a Catholic. Raised Muslim? You're probably a Muslim. Look around. How many Jewish couples have 10-year-old Buddhist children?
However, some grow up to think for themselves and change/lose religion. Others will change for a spouse. Some join cults. But for the most part, people stay with what they're raised, thinking that what they've been taught MUST be right.

Well, since I was born and raised in the deep South, I would have to say that location had nothing to do with it for me. I am an atheist, so I buck the trend of most Southerners. Of course, there is quite a bit of validity to your question, since there is a general correspondence between country of origin and religion/faith, at least in many countries.

I've always wondered why an omnipotent "God" wouldn't reveal itself to all people simultaneously. The answer is religions are created by mankind. If I had been born in China I might never have heard of of Christianity, which makes you wonder about the claim by some Christians that anyone who doesn't hear the "word of Jesus" is doomed to Hell forever by a loving God that created them only to torment them for all eternity... makes no sense at all. Geography, definitely on this one - good point.

It actually does. If for some reason they desperate to handle a minority faith or have no faith in any respect of their area they stand the possibility that they could be ostracised by potential of the the remainder of the community. So it is all approximately conforming and enjoying the activity.

2) Some more info - not a Christian now, raised as one.
If you are to look/ find for whatever you (choose) to believe, only if you are born in a geog. loc. in which one prohibits the possibility of one accessing info on any Religion/Belief other than the 'Official' you will choose for yourself.
And, sorry I don't claim that my Religion is Truth for those who believe otherwise.
Aka - my choice - my Truth - my Religion.... not
One True Faith
you did ask a q. now didn't you? :)

religion was developed in all communities as a means of upholding principals of a fair and just society. because different civilizations were completely isolated they each came up with different stories behind their moral principals. due to this there is no truth to religion, it is only a moral code to live by. and to answer your question, if there were any truth to religion all religions would be almost identical in story and religion would be global by now.

Yes, your religion is statistically dependent on what family, culture, community, and country you are raised in.
I'm fortunate enough to live in a country where there are thousands of different points of view and the freedom to explore any of them. That's how I came to understand the position of atheism and the ideas in favor of it. Of course, I am similarly a product of my own culture, though I believe that my view is the correct one.
2. Obviously, faith does not require evidence, so no viewpoint based on faith will influence it's adherents through "truth"
P.S. I'm so glad that I wasn't born female in Iran or Saudi Arabia. Seriously, there are some messed up "faiths" out there.

I love your avatar. Geographical location no doubt. I miss the witch hunts and the Inquisition...thank god we have the Mexicans to take it out on them since it is not politically correct to do it on any other race or religion. Go figure! Well, gay bashing is still pretty much acceptable by the Christians, is it not? Good!
