While we are not in an openly apparent conflict with China, there are a number of impending or looming potentials for conflict over a wide range of issues.
China's desire to be seen as a World Power has resulted their disproportionately increasing the size of their military forces, equipment, air and sea forces. They obviously have no shortage of manpower @ 1.4 billion people.
They are competing on the World stage for oil, but at the same time, building their economy is also heavily dependent upon trade and technology so they remain moderately friendly with the USA as we provide both.
A very major potential area of conflict is the ever present ongoing thorn in the paw of China, that's Taiwan which is a vestige of the old conflicts between Communist China and Chiang Kai Shek who had the backing of the USA back when Taiwan was known as Formosa, a place that Chiang took the remnants of his loyalists to in order to avoid Mainland China's regime. They quickly prospered far beyond that of China and have always served as an embarrassing part of China's more recent history.
China, on the other hand, has difficulty growing enough food to feed their own people and is dependent upon the West. Their people have jobs largely because the West purchases goods.
China still has a long ways to go, a lot of what we see is smoke and mirrors, veneers which are like movie sets, get two blocks behind them and you see continuing poverty.

There is none - although the Chinese are horrible in human rights - the only ones that have made them human are the Brits (Hong Kong) and the US with the negotiations back in the early 70's. There is no conflict - we buy and and employ China. We respect that they were a tumultuous society back in the day - but they always stated that was their problem. We, Americans, and all countries make a mint off China. They don't give a crap about their citizens. Just as long they can exist. But they harbor no hate like the Arab world.

Well, it's not a guns and shooting kind of conflict, but apparently there's a conflict. Well, several.
For example, there's pollution. Several countries want to reduce pollution by using high-tech filters, etc. on cars and factories. But this would be a real hindrance to Chinese manufacturers. So, the Chinese call the first-worlders elitist snobs, and the first-worlders call the Chinese backward polluters. Not nice.
China is the biggest country and has the biggest population, and it wants a bigger role in world affairs. Other countries (including the US) are afraid China won't use its influence to better the world, but only to better China. (I think because some of these first-world countries only have their own businesses in mind when they meddle in world affairs.)
It doesn't make the news in the US much, but I think it makes the news in Asia on a regular basis. I'm in Japan, so I hear about it.

the Term Fuzzy economics applies.
The term means that China has not renewed its currency (evaluated it on its current economic status) in over like 5 years because of that their economy is inflated and that means if it was to fall it would fall hard. The have no copyright laws so no matter who in the west or east that invents anything they simply buy it and take it apart and steal the idea making trade pointless. Furthermore, they have threatened military action against all boycotting or trade cut offs based on these transgressions.
The Chinese government is in it for themselves and this will become a huge problem later if not dealt with.
…this is a huge concern to Asian nations such as South Korea and Japan.

China changed their yen to compete with our dollar and screwed up the trade dealings.
To their benefit.
I could even see that coming. WE have given them so much power in our free trade that soon their nation will be richer and more powerful than ours.
It makes me so angry when American businesses are allowed to move from the US to a place where they can get cheap labor.
Who do the factories buy from? Where do the workers spend their money?
