I know this sounds lame and overstated but ....you admitted it, and that's the first step. I used to drink at least 24 beers a day. I also was addicted to painkillers. You need to decide you actually want to quit. Tell friends and family the truth so they wont drink around you. Keep yourself busy. When your bored, it gets really hard not to drink. Also be prepared for depression and possible alcohol withdrawals. Your brain will basically need to reboot itself. It will get better. I didn't do AA, but you should check it out.
Good Luck :)

Set up boundaries that will help you stop. Like, let someone else control your money so that you can't buy beer. Join a support group. Tell the people in your life that you want to stop and ask them to keep you accountable to your decision. Get a plan for when you are tempted to drink. Go around to all the local stores and ask the clerks to not sell you beer. Do whatever you need to do, but do your best to make it impossible to drink. Make a commitment to volunteer in the evenings. Do something else with your free time that you enjoy. Get passionate about something other than being drunk and it will be easier to stop.

If you are drinking as heavily as you say you are, you probably want to detox under medical supervision. Quitting suddenly might be very unpleasant at the least, and potentially fatal or harmful at the worst. After that, you're going to have to make behavioural changes. These might come through treatment in "rehab," they might come through attending Alcoholics Anonymous, or they might even come through you resolving to quit on your own. There is a book called "The Natural History of Alcoholism," by a psychiatrist named Vaillant, and it seems to indicate that there are many paths to sobriety. Probably you'll be best served by getting a support group of people who aren't drinking, and attending A.A. meetings is the easiest way to get that support. A first step might be to ask yourself, "why am I drinking this much." Talking with a counsellor or psychologist who has a backround in alcohol and addictions might be a good first step.

well you do the first step you admitted it
now you can try aa
there is no fix , you have to realize you cannot drink sociably
so give it up before it gets worse. i know its hard to do at a young age as the friends drink also.go online and read about what alcoholic drinking does to a human, trust me its true
also try this g to a detox center and take a few programs on it
also observe the older drinkers , look for the shakes and bad health issues they have , last suggestion then try a 28 day program , after that try aa's for 3 months
goodluck to ya

Make a commitment to stop cold turkey. Go to AA for support or find a therapist so you can figure out better way of dealing with your problems. Alternatively (and if you have the money) you can sign up to a rehab clinic and get clean in a controlled environment.

Man, I had to go to a shrink. The whole AA thing just wasn't for me.
I decide to quit and my doc gave me some meds that took that edge of the cravings. Campral I think it was.
If you need AA, go for it. It's done wonders for a whole lot of people.
Peace to you tonight.

Go to AA...At least one meeting a day, more if you have time...Go to lots of different meetings if they have them where you live. Get a Big Book and read it. Get a sponser and work the steps...Things will get better...Good luck

The most important question is- Do you WANT to fix it? If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, then call AA. They are listed in the Yellow Pages.

I suggest thinking about attending an AA meeting www.alcoholics-anonymous.org

You're not in this alone and there are people who will help :)
