Lots of yelling, lots of physical activity, lots of mindgames. Some branches have more of one than another except for the yelling; that's uniform in all branches. It's usually as rough as you make it on yourself. In all branches, it's considered to be a transition from civilian to soldier/marine/airman/sailor. It's a rite of passage that all service members must complete in order to be a part of the military. It breaks you down and rebuilds you as a team member and takes away most of the feelings of self. You have to operate as a team to survive it.

It's miserable. I was in the Army, and you will find that your world view will change, for better or worse. It will be a growth experience though,no matter what, you'll never be the same again. It pushes you to your edges, and it is not physically easy. The USMC is the hardest Initial Enlistment Training, although not the hardest when compared to special forces of any branch. The airforce is the easiest with a mere 6 weeks of basic training. Navy has 8. Army 9 (14 for infantry) and marines have 14 universal (as they are all infantry technically). You will get about 5 hours of sleep a night, you will be hungry all the time, and they will mess with your head, but they will probably not actually harm you physically. There will be many miles of marching and lots of heavy equipment and crawing through mud and playing with guns. If you don't like to get your hands dirty, don't join, because they will not be keen on letting you out either. But if your up to the challange and want to become a man really fast, go for it!

For your information, the Army has a washout rate between 8-16 percent depending on training location with as high as 3% attempted suicide rate depending on location as well. Make sure you know what your getting into.

I agree with most of the others on this. Basic training has changed over the years and will hopefully change again. Back when I went through Basic and AIT the military was not concerned with numbers and concentrated on training to standard. Now basic training is about pumping out as many people as possible. my opinion of course. but basic training is a program designed to take the average civilian and break down the mental barrier to only serve yourself. Then from rock bottom they build you up into a soldier. Every basic program is different but the concept is the same. Alot of stress will be put on you and you will wish that you were some where else, but you can make it. In the end and several years later you will look back and say to yourself "That was easy". Good luck

Eyes open, ears open, mouth shut,do your best, don't give 'em any BS, you have it made, ,Keep your sense of humor and work together. and don't try to figure what it is that you get for breakfast 3 days a week.

The ones that think they're tough and like to run off at the mouth are doomed!!

I'd guess that since WWII, over 10 million men made it through basic. You'll make it too. And when graduation comes around, you'll be proud as can be.And we;ll be proud of you.
Goodluck.

Never been to military boot camp yet. Every branch is different, I know that because I have talked to people from all branches. (Even the coast guard). Some boot camps are said to be easier than others, but everyones experience will be different.

They yell at you, they play mindgames with you and basically try to 'break you' of all that you are so that by the end of the training you are reprogramed in their mold. Its actually really easy, the physical training is a joke. The mental stuff didnt really get to me either, but I can see how some people would 'crack' under pressure...especially naive youth that have never been on their own.

You'll have to be more specific. Each branch of the US military has it's own basic training or boot camp style and each is uniquely different. No way to explain it in one message..

It depends on which one. Some worry more about security. Some train an occupying force. One trains an invasion force. It just depends. USMC is toughest and Air Force is easiest.

If your recruiter says that there will not be yelling, he/she is lying. It is like a 24 hour alarm clock, it will keep opening your eyes; even when you want to shut them..
