The Pope is not immortal.
The Pope is not perfect.
The Pope is not pure & innocent.
The Pope is only a man.
The Pope will die.

The Pope is not God Almighty or Jesus Christ.
Purgatory is a Catholic half-way stop over for the dead.

Catholicism espouses that the dead go to purgatory, for an indefinite time & after a "time of repentance", "prayer", and a monetary penance paid by the Living to the church...the dead can ascend into Heaven.

God Almighty created Hell & The Lake of Fire.

Once in Hell you can NEVER go to Heaven. You WILL be thrown into The Lake of Fire after The Great White Throne Judgment.

The Pope created neither, Hell or The Lake Of Fire, he can not "cancel" what he did not create.

People who have died without accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord & Savior while they were alive, are waiting in Hell for the Great White Throne Judgment and then they will be thrown into the Lake of Fire for e-t-e-r-n-i-t-y.

The Pope did not cancel Purgatory. The Pope announced that our brief examination of the idea of Limbo did not pan out.

+ Limbo +

The Church has pondered the suggestion of Limbo for a few hundred years and has decided that it is not a good idea. Limbo was never official doctrine.

Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)

For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized. The Bible does not explicitly state that they will go to heaven.

Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine and has been rejected.

The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.

+ Purgatory +

Catholics still believe in Purgatory.

Are you perfect now? Most people would say no.

Will you be perfect in heaven? Most people believe yes.

Purgatory (or purgation) is the process of God's love changing our imperfect selves into perfect beings.

Depending on the amount of change needed by different people this can be an easy or slightly harder process.

Everyone in purgatory is on their way to heaven.

I don't think Mother Teresa of Calcutta had a very hard time of it.

Go back and reread the news stories. Pope Benedict did *not* cancel purgatory. Purgatory is so central to Catholic theology that re-evaluating it would be unthinkable.

You're probably thinking of limbo, which is not the same as purgatory, and was never a true article of faith.

The Church says that all and sundry who die interior the state of grace could pass to purgatory first for an extremely final cleansing earlier moving into Heaven. except they have continued a redemptive suffering (which in easy terms God can deem sufficient) to bypass purgatory and pass quickly to Heaven. III. the purely precise PURIFICATION, OR PURGATORY 1030 All who die in God's grace and friendship, yet nevertheless imperfectly purified, are certainly assured of their eternal salvation; yet after death they undergo purification, with a view to realize the holiness had to pass into the excitement of heaven. 1031 The Church supplies the call Purgatory to this very final purification of the choose, that's diverse from the punishment of the damned.606 The Church formulated her doctrine of religion on Purgatory fairly on the Councils of Florence and Trent. The custom of the Church, via connection with particular texts of Scripture, speaks of a cleansing hearth:607

Sorry Purgatory still exist as far as the Catholic Church is concerned it is Limbo that was thrown out. Actually Limbo was never official doctrine but was not discouraged. Limbo was the place all who died without the knowledge or ability to be baptized went. They have all been relocated to Purgatory. Further evolution within the Church, Let's hope they continue. I am not a Catholic but felt we should at least present fact as fact.

The word purgatory doesn't appear in the bible.

It's an invention.

The Apostles of the Lord say in 1 Corinthians 4:6,

Now these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes; that in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written; that no one of you be puffed up for the one against the other.

IF IT IS NOT IN THE BIBLE, THEN DON'T ACCEPT IT! IT'S AN INVENTION. IT'S A LIE. BE VERY CAREFUL.
