This goes to anyone who belongs to a faith with a questionable background. If your faith/religion is worth anything, it should be able to withstand it's history, and everybody knowing about, not hiding from it.

I have to agree. I am a Christian and our history is pretty shameful at times. There is no defense for it, just as there is no defense for the sins of the Bible heroes. Even Jesus was angry at the church leaders of his day, calling them a brood of vipers and a den of thieves. Things have not changed in 6000 years. During the time of the reformation when our protestant faith was born, many wars were fought and blood shed. It is because of our sinful nature that humans are greedy and selfish. One day we will have no sin to deal with any more. I can't wait.

Why am I afraid? Because my faith is weak and it can't stand up to a little scrutiny.

Actually I've done quite a bit of exploring and the problem I find is that most religions don't really bear up under close examination. The closer you look the more holes you find in whatever religion it is you're looking at. But in the end I guess a good deffinition of faith is being able to believe in spite of what appears to be obvious proof that you might be wrong.

i'm a Christian and that i'm getting a level in historical past. I examine it daily of my existence. As for the Council of Nicaea I have no theory what you're talking approximately. i've got purely finished Diarmaid MacCulloch's "The historical past of Christianity", and he makes no references to any of that, neither did Paul Johnson in his e book, nor did Charles Freeman in his e book "The last of the Western strategies". Even Wikipedia's article on the 1st Council of Nicaea isn't something like what you're talking approximately. the great argument on the Council of Niceae became no count number if God and Christ have been of one substance, in reality the comparable being or became Christ subordinate to God (Arianism). the single substance human beings won out. the different councils have been on comparable subjects yet none have been a council to be certain or vote on the divinity of Jesus Christ which via Niceae had already been portion of the oral custom and then scripture for just about 3 hundred years

If you take impartial view of messages of religions, they forbid us from evils and to do good deeds. These religions are worth even some belief could not stand the test of history. In present environment your suggestion is not workable. Let the history and scientific research take its course

I am Mormon and am never afraid of anyone seeking truth. It is always amazing though how many people though aren't really seeking truth. They love to take things out of context and think that by posting them on the internet they somehow become truth. What is even more amazing is how people believe them without doing any research on their own.

sometimes when a product is sold, its beauty is ignored because the one selling it falsely represented the company. Doesn't mean the product is the same as the salesman.

If a doctor messes up an operation, you blame the doctor. Not the hospital.

I agree with you unconditionally, despite not being a part of any religion. Why does it bother people so much when outsiders study their religion academically?
